Have a look at this thread:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...3d-119421.html

Seems that although navnet is a proprietary protocol, nmea-0183 sentences are encapsulated in it and broadcast to 172.31.255.255 udp port 10021.

You may not be able to read it directly with 3.2.2 though. However the parsing rules changed in opencpn a bit over a year ago and you might have better luck with a beta version which I think should ignore the navnet preamble to the nmea sentences and recognise the data.

Have a go and let us know if it works

Interesting discussion on the Professional Pilots Rumour Network about automation vs. safety in aircraft control... also in earlier posts there. Sadly, brought to focus again by the Air Asia flight lost over Java Sea...

Had a chat with a Furuno rep at the boat show">London boat show today who was adamant that reading data from navnet was "impossible" except using Furuno products/MaxSea. I ask him for the unofficial story which he maintained was the same as the official one: impossible. I explained *why* I thought it was possible and he conceded that some people had worked it out by packet snooping.

So I'd be very interested to see if anyone with navnet has any success with OpenCPN 4.0.

muttnik...
If someone sends a couple of seconds of the traffic captured with tcpdmp or wireshark, we should be "smart" very quickly
Looking at Furuno USA Community • View topic - NN3D firmware v 2.11 & AIS Sart that "Impossible" should not be that bad for *some* of the data...

Pavel,

We did that already in the thread referenced in my post before last.
The changes made to parsing about a year ago, I *think* by you (IIRC) had a bunch of positive side effects including silently stripping v4 TAGs and, hopefully, stripping the preamble which seems to be on the navnet data. My theory is that 4.0 (with these parsing rules) should work when data connections are correctly set up whereas 3.2.2 wouldn't. AFAIK however we've yet to have anyone with a navnet system report back.

Re: OpenCPN General

Previous posts have discussed persistent naming of USB connections in linux, but I am having trouble finding these.

I keep loosing auto pilot / radio/ echo sounder connection through common USB to serial converter. connection.
My main source of GPS fix is through GPSD. (other sources from UDP with a lesser priority)

The problem being when booting or reconnecting the AP/R/ES above, GPSD takes control of it and no USB connection is seen in the drop down usb box.(I see the incoming sentences from echo sounder in the NMEA debug window as GPSD)
The only way I can get it working is delete or deactivate all connections then install USB first, once this is working connect GPSD.

This problem has only surfaced since connecting input from sounder.
When this connection was only a listener no problems occurred.

Can some one please help with instructions (again) on making USB persistent??

Tried the old google and got some answers but not concrete results.

(ubuntu 14.10 64 bit)

cheers Redog

Re: OpenCPN General

How to open OpenCPN in full screen mode.

OpenCPN is located in my start up folder and thus open automatically.
However I would like it to open in full screen mode. Is this possible?

I tried: fullscreen without access to keyboard [Sitemap] - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

But ik keep getting a null read error.

My system:
EEEPC-900 running windows xp inside the boat. (Using OpenCPN 4.0)
connected to a 12" homemade waterproof touchscreen monitor in the cockpit.

Connected to a EM-track 100b ( B class AIS tranceiver)

Second (annoyance not really a problem)
If my PC boot's up before the AIS everything works fine.
If my AIS happens to be running before the pc boot's up I have to go to settings remove it and add the connection again to get it to work.

You might try to get the latest firmware from Em-trak for the B-100. There have been some improvements over the time regarding USB connections.

As mentioned here -> Setting Up GPS | Official OpenCPN Homepage, you need to read up on udev rules. Use the search tool in this forum, and search the Internet. Heaps to study.

Re: OpenCPN General

disclaimer: I don't personally use gpsd and haven't got extensive experience with udev, so treat this with caution and anyone feel free to contradict :-)

Here's what Eric Raymond has to say about gpsd hogging usb devices:
Falling through the cracks: why GPSD sometimes bogarts non-GPS devices

Here's my recommended reading on udev rules:
Writing udev rules

Note that gpsd installs its udev rules into /lib/udev/rules.d ("40-gpsd.rules" on the ubuntu 12.04 system I just installed it on to examine). If you want to override I believe the accepted way is not to edit this file but to *copy* the file to /etc/udev/rules.d and edit *that* version which will override the version in /lib/udev.

You'll note from the linked udev doc above that you can distinguish between devices based on their physical path (i.e. which usb port they are plugged into) so even if your adapters are identical (it's easier if they're different products using the same driver) you can still write rules to distinguish between them as long as you plug the same one into the same port all the time.

Of course one choice would be to just disable hot plug launching of gpsd and start it manually.

Re: OpenCPN General

Good Afternoon, I have OpenCpn with Raspberry Pi, and I was thinking to put a webcam ahead to Radar Furuno 1623 screen with "motion" webcam server to see the radar screen on a tablet, ipad. and my question is: Exist some pluging to see the screen radar from webcam for opencpn? Are there any form to put screen radar model on opencpn?

Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN General

To understand you correctly:

running a web cam that catches the Furuno radar plotter and overlay the webcam stream on OCPN?

- no, there is no plug-in in place that does this

- challenge: how to achieve that the scale of the overlay is identical with the OCPN output - the aspect ratios of the two layers might be different as well?
How will OCPN know when the range of the Radar has been changed?

that's true, but you can set to fixed letting miles. the heart never changes is the position of the boat, and then there are concentric circles that vary according miles. that to change you have to put in the 2 places in OpenCPN and the furuno radar.
Edit: The circles no change, only change the miles.
sorry for my English is poor.
