Re: New Grib Presentation

Jean Pierre
I believe fairly recent changes to Grib_pi.dll may be causing problems with Weather_routing. Weather_routing no longer runs Grib. Can you advise regarding fairly recent changes to Grib_pi? Maybe start with a short list.
What was changed and When?

See

I hope we don't have another go round like
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1540592
with changes to "interpolation"!

Thanks
Rick

It's the problem
At the moment I didn't find one
zygrib do not give direct access to his server except through it's own program.

Nothing was changed in interpolation of what ever else except switching to API version 112 needed to get mouse events for the area new function.
As Sean said, this version in the core had a bug that I didn't detected. I hope it will be fixed soon

Yes,

I tried to replicate the code in zygrib, however I think the http access is slightly different from wxcurl and somehow it won't work.

If I can find any other sites I would implement those.

Thankyou Jean Pierre and Sean
Re Weather_routing and Grib
FS#1631 : Plugin API 1/12 change for mouse causes Weather_routing to reject Grib files.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Feature request:
FS#1712 : Move boat to estimated position at future grib time stamp

Move boat to estimated position at future grib time stamp

Quote:
I would like to see where I would be at a future grib time stamp, 'my ship' should move when scrolling through the grib timeline.

Many ways to skin the cat, some ideas:

Maybe use an outline of the own ship icon or a different color.
To estimate the future position allow for manual entry of course and speed as well as allow to use these data from GPS

Airmail-2000/Viewfax does this and I find this a very useful feature.

Thanks

Dirk
Let me know what you think

Re: New Grib Presentation

Full support of RTOFS current files in Grib_pi and Weather_routing is needed.

Re: New Grib Presentation

This plugin has gone through an amazing development the last couple of years.
Thanks Ptizef, for all your efforts.
I'm missing one little thing. The ability to display 500 mb contour lines, similar to what normal 500 mb wx charts display. This will help understand patterns and future developments. It should be possible to display 500 mb contour lines and surface isobars at the same time.

Re: New Grib Presentation

500mb as in Wx contours would be an excellent improvement.

There are a few other things as well which would be very nice to have, but I agree about the vast improvements. Thank you!

FS#1111 : Data Support Grib2 Format Support needed

FS#1708 : Ocean Surface Current Data - Support request, retrieval and use of

FS#984 : Data Support Display two grib files (Wind + Current) for effective WxRouting

I recognize that these will require multiple talents and teamwork, and that they are big step improvements.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Pavel has recompiledGrib_pii for Opencpn v 4.1.602 and it can be found on the Opencpn Downloads page.

I have tested this plugin with Weather_routing and it works fine. I like the new options and icons for changing the amount of real estate, yet when you want data at the cursor it is easy to open it up. Also the selection for various data types is simple and easy with just the right data available, nice job.

I had to enable wind particle maps after testing with weather routing, just for kicks. I ran it on a big grib and really started learning about wind! The visualization enhancements are wonderful, with the various colors for wind speed and the way the system flow is represented. Stepping through a grib file this way, you can visualize how the winds will affect your routing, aiding comprehension. A great way to learn more from the data.

Unfortunately at the end of the grib, viewing particle maps, just stepping through the frames, at the last frame Opencpn froze and I had to force it to close. I will try to make it do this again.

Ok it did it again. It is not the last frame that it fails on. It is several days before.
I am going to try to attach the grib file.

Please download the file from the main directory of Opencpn Beta File thingie rguser rgpass Remove the doc.

There is no problem running your grib file with Mac OS X and latest git commits for grib_pi compiled with Xcode together with OCPN 4.1.602 code. Any setting of grib_pi works fine with your grib data (with or w/o particles, pressure lines etc.). Might be a problem with Windows?

Re: New Grib Presentation

When I turn off pressure it particles still freezes.

Also when I uncheck pressure in the expanded menu, it does not turn off pressure. I have to go into settings to turn off pressure this is not as intended.

Thanks Sean.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Rick,
there must be something wrong with your grib_pi version.
There is no particles setting for pressure here but only for wind and current.
The check boxes in the expand menu only activates or deactivates what you have done in the settings. This has always been like this and has not changed.
I agree however the last commits of Ptizef are a little bit buggy when compiled for Mac OS X and so I have to make here some changes to make them run as intended. Don't know if exists for Windows also. Most developers use Linux and don't see that.
