Sit outside, maybe in the cockpit, on a nice spring or autumn day with a chilled bottle of good retsina, a big loaf of crusty bread, and a jar of kalamata or, better, oil-cured olives (mind the pits). It'll take you about thirty seconds to acquire the taste.

And now that I look out the window, it's sunny and mid 70s today. Gotta go.

In my opinion, yes, an acquired taste. It tastes just like pine needles.

I had a bottle of that that I carried around for years, a gift from a customer in Cypress.
I finally opened it. Yuck, left it in the clubhouse in Brunswick.

Never said it was great.

Just better than the other two, IMO.

Thread drift:

Sitting at a waterfront Greek taverna on a balmy summer’s evening with the sky an inky navy and the horizon fading in all shades of pink and apricot, nothing is more fitting than leisurely sipping seven star Metaxa with a demitasse of Kafe Elliniko Metrio after a dinner of fresh seafood whilst watching your yacht lazily drift at anchor .

Re: The New Joke Thread

Yes good memories SWL.

My Grandfather had this large mountain farm on the Island of Andros.
Farming Grapes, Olives, Figs, Pomegranate, pistachio + various livestock and their feed.

Growing up in Scotland, visits to Andros as a child every few years, was like living in this other dimension where family love, emotion and good food were unrestricted. I loved it!

I remember as a teenager tasting his own moonshine which he called Raki.
It was like Ouzo on steroids!

Re: The New Joke Thread

Stop me if you've heard this...

A hurricane blew across the Caribbean. It didn't take long for the expensive yacht to be swamped by high waves, sinking without a trace. There were only two survivors: the boat's owner, Dr. Smythe, and the steward, Marcus, and both managed to swim to the closest island.

After reaching the deserted strip of land the steward was crying and very upset that they would never be found. Dr. Smythe, on the other hand, was quite calm, relaxing against a tree. "Dr. Smythe, Dr. Smythe, how can you be so calm?" cried Marcus. "We're going to die on this lonely island. We'll never be discovered here."

"Sit down and listen to what I have to say, Marcus." began the confident Dr. Smythe. "Five years ago, I gave the United Way $500,000 and another $500,000 to my church. I donated the same amounts four years ago. And, three years ago, I did very well in the stock market, so I contributed $750,000 to each. Last year, business was good, so the two charities each got a million dollars." stated Dr. Smythe.

"So what?" shouted Marcus.

"Well, it's time for their annual fundraising drives", said a smiling Dr. Smythe, "so I know they're going to find me!"

By the way.... I tried to catch some fog earlier. I mist.

Homemade Raki is insane stuff.

Lost a big chunk of a summer on Crete.

Worked picking olives, end of the season paid with two barrels of the oil, cash equivalent in the village shops, lasted me through Christmas.
