Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Yeah I think the idea was just to focus on one criteria, price, for all of us who have more financial limitations, and for some reason 30K seemed like a good place to start. It has seemed like a good line to start at since many good boats (IMO) have popped up, in a variety of forms, good old racers included... I guess it is a price that a good number of folks may be able to buy with cash, do some sailing and still have a cash flow going to keep her alive. In other words, take heart all you (us) in the middle class, you (we) too can join the foolish wealthy and buy a boat! (only you'll do it the smart way)

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

This is one of my favorite threads and I have enjoyed following it for the four years it has been around. Learned a lot from the discussions of boats and their care. My earlier remark was not a criticism as much as a recognition that this is a big topic, under 30K. It calls for subtopics/threads.

Today it is dry enough to get ona coat of waterbased bottom paint so that's what I am up to on my little inexpensive sailboat.

I know this is listed at $34,000. But I would think it may be able to be had for less.

Giving serious consideration to her and would love thoughts from the community.

Very nice except for me the red flag is no mention or photos of engine. Still I'd definitely get a good look at it since I am a little nutty about the classics. Those have a good rep for build quality.

It looks nice but $34k is way to much. There are cruising boats that nice with all the good stuff already and that boat has almost nothing.

Any idea what it would cost to get this boat from Panama to Philadelphia? Honestly seems like a great boat.

Too good of the deal to worry about it.... A lot of people with no money will jump on such deal to go into sailing right now..

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Thanks for this Thread.

We’ve been searching for a sailboat since about 2006.

We live in a part of the world where there are very few sailboats on offer. Thankfully the internet enables us to browse some advertised boats for sale.

While looking at countless photos of all kinds of sailboats, I’ve noticed something that has always bothered me about the pictures shown of the diesel motor. It is obvious that it has been spray painted to look all shiny and new. Please don’t crucify me; but why are all the hoses and pipes and everything also spray painted? I am really curious as to why no effort is made to mask all that stuff before spray painting the motor?

Looking forward to a sensible explanation in answer to this.

I had wondered about that too but a buddy recently had his engine rebuilt by his friend, a mechanic, and he sprayed it Caterpillar yellow. I must say, it makes it a lot easier to spot any leaks and where they are coming from!

She’s been listed for quite some time. Last year when I was looking I saw this listing. Never did look at her. Surprised she’s still for sale, must be a reason...

Holy crap! Your words did not prepare me for that picture of the leather.

I wonder where one finds the amount of smurf hides needed to create those monstrosities.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I did not see her in person - never consider her for this price range.
5 years on hard and over year on listing. As after these years normal "TLC" haha! The following big items: (per broker)
Mast and boom need stripped of all hardware and refinished
the starboard spreader has come loose and needs to be bumped
and relashed.
My opinion watching closely the sales and inventory there - it should sell for 20K +/- couple grands. More likely - under 20K
