I am Using the US ENC and RNC charts for NY.

OpenGL on/off makes no difference.

It can be cleared by entering options and exiting without making changes to the charts, or closing and re-opening OpenCPN.

Please Ignore this. It seems it was related to WxWidgets 3.0.0.
After I correctly installed 3.0.2 the problem seems to have disappeared.
I'm not sure what happend with installing from the PPA, but all logs showed WxWidgets3.0.0
