    Hi Dave,

I came across your profile while investigating existing work on reverse engineering Garmin comm's protocols. I'm a grad student at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire and I'm trying to control a Garmin GCV-10 sounder with my computer. Eventually, this would contribute to development of a system for collecting trusted crowd sourced bathymetry, and hopefully integrate into OpenCPN. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to coach me on your approach to developing gradar? I'd imagine that the packets may share similarities between the two sensors, and that your experience could be very valuable. If you're interested in continuing the conversation, I'd be happy to give you details on where I am in the process. Currently, I'm combing a wireshark capture and attempting to make sense of bits in a hex editor.

    Thank you for your consideration.

I also seem to be having an issue with the OpenCpn Android forum. I registered and it seems to recognize me and tell me to expect an email to activate. That email has not yet arrived. I have looked at my trash and spam folders and don't find it. Can you please activate me manually? My login name is Meandercp.

The tide in Opencpn for Japan and South Korea should not use Daylight saving time, as far as I know. On the 11 of march it change to Summer time. Something must be wrong in the time zone info. Could you please have a look.

[sorry if that message is sent more than once, the forum seems to logout me on submission...]

    Hi Dave,

thanks for the new opencpn release!

I am the one who packages OpenCPN and plugins for Gentoo Linux.

I am having a little problem with some of your plugins: They are lacking a proper release on github. That prevents me from creating proper packages because there is no URL to the sources of a released version.

I might guess which commit is the last belonging to a release or something but that is not how it should be

Would you mind to create releases or at least releast tags on github for opencpn and the plugins you maintain? That would be a great help and would make it possible to do proper packging on Gentoo Linux

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Dave,

I signed up for the OpenCPN forum at, but have not yet received the activation email. I have checked my junk folder, and it is not there either. My username is "primaboat". If there is a way you could manually re-send that would be wonderful.

    Thank you

Hi Dave, I find some bugs with my version of 4.6.1: (W7 64 bit, 4G radar plugin, climatology plugin, dashboard, vriation plkugin)
    - One day, many 10's of times the temporary goto route disappeared.
    - Today, and occurring often, the present route becomes de-activated
    - Today, and occurring often, the next waypoint is activated while being more than 10 nm away from the next waypoint.

do you remember how to change the appearance of the soundings on S57 Charts?
I have updated to version 4.6.2 of transmitterdan and need to adjust the soundings appearance.
    Bye and thanks.

That server stuff is right up my alley... and I'm finished my current contract at the end of June. Is there more of a spec available? Do you have a list of the URLs that will provide the data?

I am already working on the new Manual in Dutch for the coming 4.6. I saw there is a new OCPN logo. Do you have that for me in a good resolution? Is there also a new logo for the Android version?

I just put a new thread about issues with gpsd with Ubuntu 16.04.
I wrote the thread into engineering category.
Is there a way to change Opencpn Install and change the rules for gpsd, or write a script to change gpsd setup.
I can do it manually, but for some Linux unexperienced people, it is hard to change udev rules setting.
