Re: Plugin Threads (List)

I will update this list again in awhile. Meanwhile use the post above for accessing the main Plugin Threads and Dialogue. I suggest you post your questions and experience in the corresponding Plugin thread. This will help others who are learning and direct the questions to users who are active on that thread and most experienced at using the plugin! Additionally it will simplify the secondary threads created by lost users.

Thanks RD for posting OTcurrents to Evans. Can't do it on my cell.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

I believe it is time to update the plugins download page now that opencpn 4.0 is released.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

Bonjour Sean D'Epagnier,

It is also necessary to update all versions taking into account the translations, in their current state, foreign languages to English.

I would also criticize the way installers works plugins and particularly Climatology.
To respond to a demand that began to appear on the French forum, yesterday I started to write explanations on how to install it.

Explanations on Climatology, currently contained in "opencpn.org" pages, are not sufficient. If followed, eyes closed, it causes a blockage OpenCPN. I'm not the only one saying this.

Conclusion: It is necessary to integrate the second file in installer.

Gille, can you explain, I will look at it more closely and make any necessary changes.

Also, please keep in mind that Pavel is developing a more comprehensive system to create and distribute plugins OSX, Windows, Linux in all their flavors, both as standalone compile and with opencpn.

This is a huge job and it will take a little time to migrate through all the plugins because he is working out the templates and little things crop up unforeseen. We have already seen the benefits of his effort, so please be patient.

1. Opencpn 4.0
2. Plugins ----> 4.0 with a new plugin creation system (behind the scene).

It will make life easier for everyone.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

Gille..

By the way the Climatology (Windows Beta Plugin) most recent from

celestial_navigation_pi-1.10-ov3.2.2-e-win32.exe 9/15/2014

contains the data and should work. But this is only for Windows.

What OS is having problems? Is it a problem related to installing the data?

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie Login rguser rgpass

Go to the 3.2.2 PI Win directory.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

Gille..
I think I figured it out.

Quote:
Possible data problem - When Data is NOT included, the Plugin deletes data on install

When a user downloads a climatology.exe for windows and installs it.
The plugin totally overwrites the climatology_pi/data directory also deleting all the data files!
This problem should be fixed or the data should be included, because users are LOSING the data in their DATA directory!

Also
CMakeLists.txt Line 17 SET(BUNDLE_DATA TRUE)
with .../build/data/ (contains all the climate data)
and .../buildwin/climatology_pi/data (contains all the climate data)

There is NO data copied to the NSIS folders!
How does this work now?
I am going to remove the current climate version and upload an older one which INCLUDES the DB it should work with 4.0!

Thanks, very helpful debugging cmake plugin setups.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

climatology_pi-1.0-ov3.2.2-f-db-new-win32.exe
has the most recent larger database and works with 4.0

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie Login rguser rgpass

Go to the 3.2.2 PI Win directory.
Sorry about that!

Two things are at stake:
- The installation file and data
- The language file.

Here I will tell you, only, the installation file of the windows version (".exe").

I work in the writing of opencpn.shoreline.fr website. it is one of two sites which explains OpenCPN users.
This website was far from complete in terms plugins.
I started yesterday a page about Climatology plugin windows version.

On Climatology, as with all plugins, I must imperatively explain to users that the plugin must be downloaded from the website "opencpn.org/plugins"

So, explanations that I provide, concerns only the plugin version that is downloaded to that page. And this, even if your "Thingie" server, there is another available and higher.

Currently the download page, official, includes a version of the installer of Climatology, which works, in part correctly.
It correctly installs the "dll" in the "plugins" folder.
Properly install the language file, in French, in the "share / locale / en / LC-MESSAGES".
It correctly creates a "climatology" folder in the "plugins" folder
It correctly creates a subfolder "data" in the "climatology" folder.

BUT

the data folder contains only 3 files instead of 43 files.

On the download page, a few lines above link to download the installer ".exe, it says:

Note: The plugin does not come with data, you need to download it separately and unpack on your machine. The plugin will remind you when you run it, but anyway, the latest data files can be found at this link.
"
So you have to download separately the data file.

But there is no explanation on what to do with this file.
Rather, by reading all the pages of 'climatology', one can understand, by mistake, at some point, using "climatology", we will be told what to do with this second file.

If we start O and if active "climatology" and if we launch "climatology", it does not work .... and an alpha user can not close the alert window that opens.

There are two ways to fix this:
First way:
By correcting the explanations in the download page. It should be explained to all users need to copy and paste the data file in the "plugins / climatology."

Second way:
By integrating the data in the current installer file so that all files are required in the "data" folder.
(In this case, it will no longer need to be downloaded separately the data).

Both applications require no modification of the current installer. You just need to update the "data" folder in it.

Note:
I would add that the structure of the current data file is difficult to understand for some users. Indeed, one must unzip it twice to extract the "data" folder. I have to explain, detailed and long, very long in my web page.

Note:
Pavel will have plenty of time to develop a new installer .

Best regards, Gilletarom.

Re: Plugin Threads (List)

Gilletarom...
- The plugin tells you what to do with the data file when you use it.
- The data was excluded from the package on Sean's request. You are a living proof that the price the smaller package has in terms of confusion is way too high, so I will include all the data files in the next release.
Note: The new packages will come this week, don't waste time explaining how to extract the .tar.xz file, it will not be used anymore.
Same applies to all plugins needing data.
Note: I have absolutely no time to develop a new installer.
