You've nailed it! Ideology has never had much to do with the actions of the "media barons".

Yes - which is why the "theory" posted earlier is not a theory.

Semantic arguments aside (you seem to be using the scientific meaning while
Gord's reporting seems to be using the more colloquial meaning, perhaps better defined as 'hypothesis')

The abstract of the paper referenced makes no claim that this is a scientific theory, but it does use "...reliable facts - real world repeatable observations, over a long period of time", to make their case.

Besides, the first line, "Horseshoe Theory suggests that the political spectrum is not a straight line" seems to echo your sentiment...at least in theory.

Love the honest observations here without a L-R filter. In my opinion that is what we the people are looking for in our political systems and I am looking for in my news source.

Good luck finding that.

One problem is that people tend to gravitate toward what they want to hear, i.e., what they already believe... so a news source selects its likely audience, and blasts away.

Another, from a recent study of ads in Facebook, is that targeting further ensures many people are only served political ads they'll want to see.

Re: The Humour in Left vs Right

Did Boris Johnson (successfully) match a bit of leaning to the left on the economy, with a similar lean to the right on Brexit, migration and crime?
Would that suggest that: It is easier for the right to move left on economics, than it is for the left to move right on identity and culture?

He who throws mud loses ground. So, maybe right siders need mud rooms.

Ugh. Maybe we shouldn't go there. Diesel engines don't have politics.

OK, but why where Republican couples twice as likely to have separate sinks, in their bathrooms, as registered Democrats.
And why did Republicans average four TVs per household, compared to the Democratic average of three.
These are important questions, enquiring minds want to know.
Or not.
Or, perhaps, why did anybody care, enough to ask?

Diesel engines don’t involve politics? That is funny!

I suspect Brexit is a notable exception to the left-right dynamic. The choice did not line up so neatly on either side of that spectrum.

So I would say that in this election, the British chose certainty ("Get Brexit done!") over uncertainty ("We'll maybe cobble together a better agreement, and then you get to vote on it again, and while we thrash it out some more, here's some shiny radical things...")
