There is a wealth of human behavioral research out there now that supports your observation BP. It's fascinating stuff. We really are weirder than we think.

Natives are called Arkansans, (emphasis on middle syllable). Interestingly, Arkansas City in Kansas has an audible final “s”.

I learned some of those folks get real bent out of shape if the code isn't followed. No sense of humor at all with a few. Threatened once they would call law on me....or would that be 'las'?

Re: The Humour in Left vs Right
Mike and BP,
I’ve seen that in my own family. Without going into inappropriate details I’ve seen some peculiarities expressed over 5 generation in my family. And I too have afflicted kids.
Mike,
I would quibble with you on the idea of “good/bad” or “moral/immoral” in the context that Nature makes no such distinctions, they are cultural concepts and can vary (a bit) between cultures. I would restate it to say we are born with some preferences towards existing within a tribe/group. Those traits that tend to make us team players are assed as good, ones that tend elsewise not so much.

The good one is a high school principal.
The PIA is dean of an international school and one of the best human beings on this planet.
Both have excellent table manners

Yes, I agree. I think I wrote "right and wrong" not "good/bad". Those are indeed social constructs. But the findings of the research I've read show that kids as young as six months have a sense of fairness or equity. Some might put it as a sense of justice.
I think you're right (although I haven't read this in the literature) that this justice instinct comes from our tribal evolution.

Re: The Humour in Left vs Right
... And yet if we avoid topics that are considered politically sensitive (opinions vary), we can discuss something like, well, sailing without ruffling any feathers.
Unless we talk about anchors or multihulls....
