Re: The Humour in Left vs Right
Four times as many Republicans, as Democrats, have mud rooms in their homes

The first room you go through in a house, if your a person that farms or otherwise does manual labor that gets you dirty, its where you can change out of your work clothes etc, ours had a shower in it too.
Of course if you live in a city and work at a desk, you will not have a mud room, so they are a rural thing.
Also in a similar vein, rural houses will often have a large sink in the laundry room where you can pre soak dirty clothes

In snowy cities and suburbs, many new and remodeled homes are built with expanded back halls. They're a great place to hang your Lands End field coats and brush the snow off your Labradoodle after a brisk walk. And of course a whole new area for Martha Stewart to teach us to decorate. Mud rooms, but with artisanal mud.

When nothing goes right; go left.
If you voted left; you're not thinking right.

Re: The Humour in Left vs Right
Horseshoe Theory suggests that the political spectrum is not a straight line, with ideologies moving across a line from left to right, but rather a horseshoe, with its farthest outliers bending in toward each other, and sharing a number of beliefs.
Proponents of horseshoe theory argue that the extreme left and the extreme right are closer to each other, than either is to the political center.

That concept makes sense. The extremes certainly share many behaviours in common - dogmatic, partisan, closed minds, willing to say or do just about anything to advance their cause. Reality seldom intrudes.
Understanding, compromise and moderation, the tools of the center, are anathema to the polar extremes.

Not surprised there, either. A raging partisan battlefield makes a lot of smoke and noise, which is great cover for covertly advancing other agendas.

Re: The Humour in Left vs Right
Lol. Political "Science".
Theories do not "suggest". They are supported by reliable facts - real world repeatable observations, over a long period of time.
From wikipedia:
"For instance, a single left–right spectrum of political opinion does not capture the full range of people's political beliefs. Political scientists use a variety of biaxial and multiaxial systems to more accurately characterize political opinion."
In other words, not a spectrum. Spectrum is literally a straight line.

But more importantly -- at least, probably -- for the people involved, for making a LOT of money off of people of BOTH ideologies!
