Wikipedia

Satire:
Satire is a genre of literature and performing arts, usually fiction and less frequently in non-fiction, in which vices, follies, abuses and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals...

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Personally, I like that there are younger, vivacious, fun people Cruising. The Grey Waves are really great folks, but it can be many miles between places of pretty people. The land vloggers too, tend to be very fun people and thier growing number of Work Cafes are excellent for sailors too. I get a bit jealous when a couple of "kids" get thier anchor and chain donated for free. But that's my issue from starving my way into the Sea and learning over decades the 'hard way'.
( yes, this is a Positive supportive comment for the YouTubers and Vloggers)

Don't keel-haul me, but who else thinks being young, inexperienced, broke and beautiful are not exacly Cruiser Prerequistes?

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

I believe most of the negative remarks towards the YouTube bloggers are made by those that are insanely jealous as the bloggers have done what the jealous ones wish they could.
I’m both jealous and envious but have no hatred towards them for accomplishing more than I.

To the OP, my son likes the one with the people from Texas on the catamaran and all the kids. He is 13. I guess he must be a "no one" too. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. '

Thank you, no not in the least. Secure people tend to have thick skin and refrain from ridiculing others. I'm good. Mahalo for checking in. Happy sailing. Aloha

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

I'd be willing to bet that one of the those to benefited most from You Tube is GoPro. They got my money before I figured out that I didn't really want to be a slave to the one I bought.

I spend too much time just reading and watching internet content. The idea of spending time trying to figure out how to add quality content is very unappealing.

You Tube new favorite,

This couple is highly underrated,I suspect because of the lack of clickbait and "flash" but these two are the real thing. I almost suspect that she's tougher than he is! I have much respect for anyone who can pick up a welder and build a boat and even more respect when a woman does it! ( mostly because you just don't see it very often) They're fantastic!

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Interesting breakdown on estimated YouTube/Patreon income for Gone with the Wynns, one of the more successful sailing channels. Bottom line: around $60k/yr.

Calculating patreon income is more difficult now. Patreon used to show the income generated per video. I'd suspect that the Wynns are making much more than $60k per year. I think the estimate of $2k per vid is very low. probably closer to $4k at least. LaVagabonde used ( this is a couple of years ago) generate over $8k per vid and they were posting weekly!!

Agree about being a slave to anything that points and shoots.

There are times when I simply want to absorb my surroundings in a field independant sort of way.

When carrying a spear gun or a camera .....your mind is more on focus and capture rather the than subtle impressions and aura of your surroundings.
