Re: Best Not Electric Coffee Maker

Gentle posters. Thank you for all the replies. I think Aeropress is off the list as the manatee crew used the parts to build a model of the space station then blew it apart with a water gun. Similarly, the stainless steel funnel sounded like a great idea until every funnel and all the aluminum foil in the boat turned up at a impromptu Wizard of Oz party.
Our percolator was turned into a martini mixer after the interior parts were used to fix a Baha filter. I never found the glass top thing.
We agreed a 316 stainless double wall extra large mocha pot looked worth the substantial investment but several checks from my manatee crew bounced.
The crew is equally divided over the French press vs paper filter issue. The French “press gang” folds the science papers of the” paper drip “team into airplanes decorated with small French flags and the words “Sacre Bleu”.
I feel like Danny DeVito in Throw Momma Off the Train. You know...we have Earl Gray, Irish Breakfast, Oolong, Lapsang suchong and Darjeeling.
Seeking domestic tranquility, everyone agreed drink no more than two espressos per day. I agreed to pay for the inox mocha pot.
Again thanks to all for the posts.
Happy trails to you
Mark and his decaffeinated manatee crew.

Not fair - you never said that it had to get universal crew approval and survive their misuse! That's a pretty high bar to clear...

Re: Best Not Electric Coffee Maker

Late to the party. . .

We use a 9 cup range top percolator that works great for the two of us. It fills two Contigo cups and last us all morning..

We used to use a stainless french pess but it was a pain to clean.

Happy coffee making with whatever you choose.

Re: Best Not Electric Coffee Maker

I found a 3 to 4 cup stainless steel coffee press at REI, the outdoors store. Works good, although I mainly drink tea. I don't want to face my crew in the early AM with no coffee in sight.

I use a cone with paper filter. Simple, safe, easy, no downsides. Common sense needed.
I have also played with coffee press but harder to clean

Related Tip: Bustelo or Pilon fine ground Cuban coffee works well. Comes in 10 oz vacuum packed bricks that are easily stowed and last a very long time. We buy a 4-brick pack at Costco for around $10.

Good to know, thanks! I shall try those as well. Got the classic ones in different sizes already.

I have that one, too, but haven't used it in a while. With all the different parts to screw together it's a bit more finicky to use than the classic espresso makers. Cleaning up (and drying it) is also a bit more involved, I find.

Even if it's not quite "stale", freshly ground coffee beats it any day.

Just give them instant coffee and cold water until they come to an agreement.
