44' Marples in Washington State $18,500

Apparently water got into the centerboard well which requires a whole bunch of work. It's in Bellingham so I don't know if it's DIY. I'd probably take it to Port Townsend which I know is DIY. Plus PT is really cool.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I posted that one on the Searunner thread some time ago, it has been on and off the market for some time, price is dropping as reality sets in. Speaking of it would need a very careful looking over, major reconstruction is needed. At today's materials costs though it should be less than a new build if the skin is ok.

Nice boat, but needs loads of TLC and someone really good in epoxy and wood and glass.
Looks like it needs new sails and a new engine as well.
Shame it dit not find a new owner when it was still reasonably good in shape.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Yes the Marples is still priced high considering sails, rigging , engine and probably everything else. . Cruising tris don't bring in a lot of money so I don't see anyone dropping in the 60,000 plus pro quotes to repair it.

Port Townsend is a pretty expensive place to haul out with the additional problem of being a tourist trap with large amounts of local experts who'd like to help you spend the Bellingham quote money. So everyday you'd be talking to somebody or repelling boarders. I'd recommend looking around for a work place before buying.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Exactly, last time I checked pt charges tri's the commercial yard rate so I'd be surprised if colony wharf (bellingham) isn't close to 1/2 the price of pt monthly.

From what I've heard 3rd hand, to be taken with a grain of salt- new owner of that Marples has too many boats and has been paying storage for a year, has not touched it. Price has not come down yet from aprox what they bought it for, before that boat was up in Sandy Point and sold by a broker.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I think last year the Marples was around $22000. Looking at the video I'd be getting that mast out pronto before the support crumbles. It is pretty obvious that it needs a whole cb trunk and perhaps bulkhead work as well as the cockpit rebuilt. Rot is like a iceberg, 90% you don't see. The motor even if it worked has to come out so you can see how bad it's beds have gotten. I'd probably skip the inboard and put in a ob sled or 2.

engine hours (total): 1578
length overall (LOA): 40
make / manufacturer: Keith Cutshall /Vance Bhuler

The lower boat is dead. I just saw the pictures in the add.
Shame it looked like a nice design though.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

^Vance Buhler designed some tris (and ~50ft charter cats as well). One of the original bc multihull group guys. Most would've been in BC Canada & a few, the Caribbean. I've seen a 30', & have no real comments on the designs.

One thing that caught my eye on the updated ad, now with at least a picture or 2, is the sellers estimate of "20k lbs cargo hold" --impressive! (and/or further highlighting the sellers lack of multihull knowledge & loss of touch with reality).

As to this specific boat: It's been for sale before, believe I likely posted it to this thread even, say 3-5 years back. It may have been free, 5k or $15-20k max. I recall there is a book published by the original owner
