let's PM so I can connect you with the yard managers

I am not the manager and am not able to speak for him... but I think if you offered to truck it away he'd say, It's yours.

1973 Chance 30/30, for $2900?

https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/w...791105380.html

The seller doesn't seem to have a clue.

Is there a deal, here?

Anyone willing to brave N. Wisconsin in January to find out?

Absolutely gorgeous boat! Can't help but wonder why the price is so low.

I found this boat on a dutch sailing site, the owner wrote there:

Dear 'mjanssen'
Four years ago I acquired a Fortunella 34 myself, and in my research I found your description of your truly amazing renovation for your boat. From Denmark myself I unfortunately don't speak or understand Dutch, but I have enjoyed and studied the photos intensely. In years 2016-17 I thoroughly renovated my Fortunella, but from a very different state.

From the time I found your 'blog', it was my hope sometime to be able come see you and your boat and to exchange ideas and experiences. After all Holland is not a very long sail. But unfortunately circumstances now force me to sell the Sylvan.

If by chance you should be aware of someone - perhaps inspired by your project and your boat - interested in acquiring a Fortunella, I'd be happy if you would pass on my notice to him or her.

I therefore add the following link to descriptions etc. of my boat:
sites.google.com/site/fortunella34sylvan/home?pli=1

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

We have been on a quest for a suitable cruising sailboat under 37 feet and priced under $20K. We have seen some real dogs and one charmer. In the end, the project is cancelled for the near future.

Doing my research, I sense that many good old boats are out there and priced very attractively. I think the price depression is because the old designs just aren't as relevant as new designs. Aside from the obvious issues af condition, (new boats are in better condition than old ones), the new designs being sold represent current sailing family demands. They are very different from old boats. Older boats just don't fit the family sailing model any longer and that depresses their prices. We only looked at boats with no structural issues.

My findings, with pictures, are at our family sailing blog: Averisera Some readers of this forum my find the results worthwhile. These are boats I have seen and will answer some questions about them. Please note, I have no financial interest in any of the boats in any way.

I think next summer, we will charter a for a family sail in the areas around Cape Cod.

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Carter 39'

Location = SOCAL. Los Angeles harbor

Asking Price = $12,900
____________

Steadman's Notes:

1. Today I came across this boat and thought it may appeal to someone on CF.
Reason? Low price and size.

2. This is an older (1973) "Racer Cruiser" that looks like it has a typical IOR hull shape.

3. The interior is surprisingly nice.

4. It has dual wheels in the cockpit, and large winches.

5. While this boat appears to not have any topside deadlights, and so may have a relatively dark interior, with less ventilation, it is something that other Flush Deck boat owners deal with or live with.

Hey Steadman, good to see you back!
This is one of those that is either too good to be true or really shows how boat prices have fallen!

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Steadman:
Thanks for the tip. Last night the MRS and I reviewed the listing carefully.

The C-39 is a very innovative design from Dick Carter's office. They are very well built by olympic in Greece. An ancient memory has it that the lines were drawn by Chuck Paine who worked for Carter Offshore. I know one of the flush deck model did an Atlantic Circle in the early 1970s. A boat named Blaze did very well racing on Long Islands Sound. There is no reason not to love the boat. And, the price is right!

Pursuant to DL's remark. Wow, old boats are seeing their prices ( measures of desirability) drop like stones. "Times, they are a'changin'."

A very close associate is in the charter brokerage business and tells me that a 4-50 ft charter boat over three years old has significantly less appeal than a new one. Yachts have gone from specialty goods to commodity goods. It has to do with the layout and creature comforts. Cynically... it is now about lounging and not about sailing.

On the edge of not being on this post, but I think we can include it:

https://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/77753

A 1978 Rafiki 37 for 30k asking.

Looks like it has some recent updates, or appears not to be a two years on the hard boat. Still, you would have to check it out yourself.

Thank you for this.

This yes, and, if that owner does put that boat on the market, please do so at a price that ensures a quick or semi-quick sale.

it is such a shame to see so many nice, beautiful boats deteriorate.
