WeatherFax with Mac OS Open 5.8

WeatherFax is not able to start under Mac OS

Please provide more complete information.
Exactly what MacOS, Opencpn version, plugin version, etc.
Also a complete description of what you are doing to load the plugin and how the problem is created.

it does not load on my computer either.

OpenCPN 5.8.0, MacBook Air running MacOS Sonoma, tried to install WeatherFax 1.9.110.0

Below attached is part of the log file, with a section marked in bold.

O looks for a file '/usr/local/opt/openssl@3/lib/libssl.3.dylib',

where on my computer there is a: /usr/local/opt/openssl@1.1/lib/libssl.dylib

which points to -> libssl.1.1.dylib

I dug a bit deeper and found the following thread on https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/81220

OpenSSL

Although OpenSSL is commonly used in the open source community, OpenSSL does not provide a stable API from version to version. For this reason, although OS X provides OpenSSL libraries, the OpenSSL libraries in OS X are deprecated, and OpenSSL has never been provided as part of iOS. Use of the OS X OpenSSL libraries by apps is strongly discouraged.

If your app depends on OpenSSL, you should compile OpenSSL yourself and statically link a known version of OpenSSL into your app. This use of OpenSSL is possible on both OS X and iOS. However, unless you are trying to maintain source compatibility with an existing open source project, you should generally use a different API.

Hello Sir
thank you for your best effort but even after having implemented this version, when I restart my MacBook Catalina 10.15.7 with OpenCpn 5.8.4 , it still crashs
OpenCpn saying that it meets some issue to enable WeatherFax

I reconfirm the issues with Waetherfax still persists. When trying do install a message pops up: cannot install, will be reinstalled. After closing the dialog and closing the settings dialog, O crashes.

Here are the last lines from the log file. Some lines formatted in bold which seemed to me the most interesting.

Dave (aka bdbcat),

I got an email that you replied to my post asking for the entire log file. I do not see your reply here, nevertheless I attach the complete logfile here in case you are interested: opencpn.log.pdf

As usual I added ".pdf" to the fie to play tricks with the forum software.

The second to last run is the one, where O crashed after trying to install the plugin. Then I started O once more, without loading the plugin, and O exited clean. This is to exclude any other issues not related with the plugin.

I did ask for the full log, then noticed that you had attached all that I needed. So I deleted my post. But I guess someone saw it in the few minutes it was up.


As you surmise, the trouble is with OpenSSL@3 libraries required by the plugin. Some trouble on MacOS. Looking into this now.
