Open CPN & IridiumGo & Mac - GPS Position

Hello,

I am hoping someone can provide direction on how to connect the Open CPN program to the IridiumGo to receive GPS position.

I am receiving the GPS position via WiFi and my position is appearing on my 'Predictwind Offshore'.

I am using a MAC.

First thing you have to determine is where your location info is coming from now. If wifi you should only be connected to the iridiumGo not local wifi on the boat which may be getting an approximate location from your ISP.

If connected via wifi to the IG and you still are getting your location info then you know it is the IG not your ISP.

The IG has the ability to turn the internal GPS on or off so you could recycle it.

Yes as stated above I am getting my position via WIFI from IridiumGO only.

I also can determine the IP address etc however am unable to display this in OpenCPN using a MAC. Am hoping someone can give me some direction on how to solve this.

How can I send the GPS position of the IridiumGo to my open cpn loaded in a Mac Book Pro to see my boat positionand track?
I dont really want to buy a USB GPS dongle if have the data ready available.
Any step-by-step advise?

While the Iridium Go! does have a GPS, the position date in the app comes from the Go via a custom API. It is not, to my knowledge, standard NMEA data being sent over WiFi which is what OpenCPN needs. The Iridium Go! is not intended to be a GPS source for onboard instruments anyway.

To feed your OpenCPN with position data, you need some NMEA based source of GPS data. This could be a USB GPS puck, or a NMEA to WiFi converter attached to your boats existing NMEA network, or a Vesper AIS with WiFi, or a number of other possibilities.
