Re: WeatherFax ...

Re my previous post, I have since found that Save As under File in the small Weather Fax box does indeed become available after manual audio capture when you click Next and Next on the Weather Fax Image screen. The saved image can then be edited and/or morphed as necessary.

Ok, but this version does not install on 64-bit machines. And now on the official website, opencpn.org, there is no version that runs on all versions of windows ...

It starts to rise in a negative way on the French forums. This is a bad situation.

This version :

https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/weatherfax.html

I wonder if by chance, this version is for O486 or for the versions in development of OCPN. ?

It installed and works just fine with OpenCPN 4.8.6 on my 64bit Windows 7 machine. Could you be a bit more specific about the actual problem the experts on the french forums talk about?

You are right. I just cleaned my 64 bit machine under W10. I removed several parallel version that encumbered it and I uninstalled O486 completely. Including, the plugins.

And I reinstalled O486 and the weatherfax plugin.

I managed to make it work the plugin immediately by using internet download.

I will try to understand with a French user what can disfunction.

Wait and see.

Here is the current problem faced by a French user.
On my advice, this user uninstalled O486 and reinstalled O486. After that, he installs the plugins.
It then gets a write error. See the first screenshot.
But, strangely, he then observes that the plugins are still installed (see second screenshot) and work properly.

Re: WeatherFax ...

As far as I understand the error message (I do not speak french), the set-up tries to overwrite a DLL file, that is loaded by the system and therefore write protected.

But because you install the same version anyway, it works, the mentioned DLL is still there in place, so no error occurs.

A restart of the system prior installing new may help resolve this. If not than look at related processes that may use this dll.

You may need to kill all related processes before installing the fresh version by the task manager. Maybe there is a background service that uses the DLL. With the windows resource monitor you can find out what processes and what dll are loaded.

Gilletarom...

Just out of curiosity - how did we come to the conclusion that this has anything to do with the weatherfax plugin? From the picture it is pretty clear that he has problem with BSB4 plugin.

To add to what CatNewBee already wrote:
- OpenCPN must not be running when you re-install already installed plugins, as either the plugin DLL or some data files may be open, which may result in this and other errors.
- It may be a file permissions problem, in which case neither a restart, nor the fact that OpenCPN is not running will help. How did the user manage to make the file not writable by himself is unknown (Maybe he installed it previously as an administrator or a different user), but can be simply fixed by setting it to the correct permissions. There is endless number of instructions how to do it on the internet, like https://www.online-tech-tips.com/com...sions-windows/ I suppose some of them even in French.

The sample offered in a screenshot, relating to the bsb4 plugin, is only an example. This phenomenon seems to have occurred for all the plugins he tried to install.

I still have an idea behind my head. I wonder how this user uninstalled OpenCPN. I'm not sure that he also uninstalled the plugins he tried to install in a first installation attempt.
But, although I asked him for more details, this user does not seem to know how to explain all of these steps.

Re: WeatherFax ...

The Weatherfax xml files need to be updated again.

It would be helpful if many users would check their areas and send in any URL changes needed and some general notes about which faxes have changed and need new geo position or projection.

Thank you.

Re: WeatherFax ...

We are going to try updating the weatherfax xml files for the internet downloads of weatherfaxes.

Currently we have many "Passage Weather" wind files in the "Server" & "Region" lists.
There has been a suggestion that these areas are adequately covered by Grib_pi downloads that are available and should be removed from the list.
-- At this point I have no objection with the idea, but want to hear from others about this first.

Also there are other resources that should be included. Please send any new weatherfax urls that you use frequently, if we do not have them.

Re: WeatherFax ...

Dominig reports problems compiling Weatherfax_pi here
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2779883
He has also posted in Issues https://github.com/seandepagnier/wea..._pi/issues/236

I am also reporting a bug with the way the Weatherfax Wizard works with coordinatesets.xml in Issues https://github.com/seandepagnier/wea..._pi/issues/108 and he is having similar problems with Weather_routing_pi

This problem is (I believe) causing an extraordinary number of weatherfaxes to fail and efforts to restore them properly are for naught. There is nothing we can do about this other than wait for a program fix. I cannot continue to update the xml files as they many are not being displayed due to this problem.

We need some programming help with these plugins.

Re: WeatherFax ...

The Overlay Wizard is also broken now.
https://github.com/seandepagnier/wea..._pi/issues/111

It is now impossible to do any maintenance work on the xml files.

Re: WeatherFax ...

New compile of weatherfax Beta after updates for Android.

Compiled for Windows, OpenCPN 4.2.0-4.8.8
Incorporates 4 PR getting Android working etc.
Merge 192.168.12.67:weatherfax_pi Oct 9, 2018

This version works ok, except it works differently and causes Opencpn to crash when it is closed.
It needs testing and improvements. Please report your findings in the forum or in git.

The xml files need updates.
