I doubt the direct control of rtlsdr is going to work correctly in windows. I did this in linux, and without the rtl_fm binary available in the path, it isn't going to work. The green bar would display, but as you said, nothing received. Further, I used an upconverter, so there needs to be an option for that vs direct sampling.

There are no hardware mods to the dongle.
As described in a previous post, the antenna is clipped to the backstay and tuned with an old surplus ATU.
About 40 years ago this ATU lived as a detachable module on a military manpack HF set with crystal controlled freqs up to about 9 MHZ. There is no mystery in it's circuits - a couple of variable condensers & coils selected by a 3 way switch & a little handle for fine tuning. 2 old mini bnc connectors are replaced with modern standard size & a spare offcut lenght of 75 ohm tv coax is used to get the signal from the backstay. The coax inner core is connected to the backstay with a crocadile clip, and the outer core is clipped to the rudder stock as an earth. I'm sure this arrangement can be improved to clean up some signal noise.
Many thanks for your info with Linux details. I'm afraid I've no experience with that operating system, so it looks like my present setup will have to do until there's a stable Windows 10 release.

Not even DHMZ uses the same pattern everywhere - their wave charts at DHMZ use simple sequence from 1 to 40 in http://prognoza.hr/valovi/val12_w_<SEQUENCE_NUMBER>.png

Re: WeatherFax ...
Thanks for unraveling it, Pavel,
So then once it hits 72 or 40 it just starts over?
--Sean is there a way to express this?
Pavel do you know if the "uv10" changes by any chance?

Nothing changes. The names of the images are constant.
They are just overwritten with every new model run. This is the only problem - it is hard to say if the new model has already been computed and you need to redownload or not.

Please, it is
MHz
not mhz.
M - mega
m - mili
Hz in memory of Heinrich Rudolf Hertz.

Re: WeatherFax ... on Raspberry
Dear all,
may I ask (as a Raspberry etc. illiterate - just toying around with my "new" Nav-Computer to be) where I can find the latest plugins for that system?
I used the "standard" method and installed the weatherfax plugin, but this seems to be an older version.
Can somebody help me with that??
(and please be patient with me, I have no idea what I am doing, however at least OpenCPN works on my system now .... :-) )
Best regards, Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ... on Raspberry
Uf using raspberry Pi the easiest is to use the openplotter distribution Sailing with free hardware | Sailoog
App plugins are already installed and everything is optimized for the PI.

Re: WeatherFax ...
... thanks a lot, Petter,
I have read about openplotter and understand, that they have a lot of functions included - on top of OpenCPN, however, I have OpenCPN installed - 4.8.2 - and it runs fine. No problem. Yes, I need to get used to some different syntax, file locations and a bit a different architecture, but that's no real sweat (only that I sometimes may have some dump questions).
My point is, how do I get the latest versions of the plugins into this system?
E.g. Weatherfax 1.8.002b, Weatherrouting 1.12.0b, Celestial Navigation 2.3, Climatology 1.4, etc. ....
When installing these on Raspberry, I have Weatherfax 1.5001, Weatherrouting 1.10, Celestial Navigation 2.0, Climatology 1.2, etc. ...
I doubt, that Openplotter has newer versions installed. Therefore my question just is, is there another source where I could have acces to the latest (sometimes still beta) plugins or will it take a while, until they are available on all platforms and I just have to wait? OK??
Thanks a lot,
Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ...
Try first to update your system to get the latest official versions and then after that see what you have:
from a terminal:
Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
restart opencpn and check what versions installed now.

Re: WeatherFax ...
.... hi Petter,
thanks a lot for your fast reply - meantime it is bedtime, isn't it for you as well??
However, I did all this already (sudo .... update & sudo ... upgrade) I am definitely on the latest level. I am running RaspbianStretch and used XENIAL - this is all working fine. And of course - after installation of OpenCPN I did - again the update/upgrade stuff and it tells me, there is nothing to update/upgrade.... OK??
Best regards, Uwe
