Re: WeatherFax ...

No I am not a programmer like you Carcode. Thanks for pointing out it is version 5.01 to compile to for Mojave, but is that what the user really wants? Does he have Mojave? We must not assume these things.

Additionally, Ron has just tried compiling wxfax for MacOS and he finds that it is missing some dependencies and will not run. He did not say which ones. Many thanks to Ron for finding this out.

Carcode since you do this, can you help by advising what and where those dependencies are? IE how to fix the plugin for Mac?

Thanks.

As I already said it helps nobody if some guys tries to compile something that does not work instead of getting the official software from opencpn.org.
Please stop this tries. The only success is that users are frustated about not working software and leave OpenCPN.
BTW I use Weatherfax compiled for my own use with macOS Mojave since a long time and it works very well. But I never ever publish it for other people. Other people must use the official version from opencpn.org !

Obviously you don't know what "Opensource" means.
Anyway it does not mean to spoil software of other people.

Re: WeatherFax ...

I'm with Rick on this one.

He is one of the folks here beeing very helpful, knowledgeable and offering a hand wherever he can.

Thanks Rick!

Absolutely no need to bash him.

If you feel you can do a better job in porting to a new MAC version just do it and share it to everyone instead of bashing someone offering to help.

Re: WeatherFax ...

Thank you Franziska, for the kind words.
Carcode is sometimes our pet Troll. He gets up on the wrong side of the bed and should just GO SAILING to cheer himself up! Instead he gets on the forum and enjoys being a pain in the neck, to people like Pavel, Ron, me and others.

Dear Carcode,
At first, I tried to be your friend, but you wouldn't accept that friendship. now you are angry at me because I thanked Ron for helping everyone who uses Mac by compiling the plugins. This has been a huge help! Your envy is quite transparent. I really do think you should go sailing, seriously, it is a great tonic for a bad day, or even month! Then come back and try to be nice. You have great knowledge and do help a lot with your observations. I think you'd really enjoy sharing that knowledge, if you just gave it a try! Smile, be nice and have a great day.
Best Regards,
Rick

Re: WeatherFax ...

Just to cheer y'all up (maybe) - I run OPENCPN on macOS Catalina Beta. Runs fine! It's other software that seems to play up, not OPENCPN. (Same on IOS beta which frustrates even APPLE apps ...)

And thanks Rick for your reply. However, I'm now unclear as tot the status of W'fax for O5 on MacOS ... ? As for CarCode ... it is my experience that there is no greater satisfaction than seeing expertise I share being put to good use by others ... and I hope (in a nice & respectful way) that sharing this will be put to good use too.

Re: WeatherFax ...

To CarCode: You might say that ("BTW I use Weatherfax compiled for my own use with macOS Mojave since a long time and it works very well. But I never ever publish it for other people. Other people must use the official version from opencpn.org !") but as of now there is no version of WeatherFax for O5 and MacOS. Do you have a solution? Maybe one that can be put to good use by the OpenCPN community? That would be really helpful and add to OpenCPN!

Re: WeatherFax ...

rramsey,

Don't give up on me yet. I have been working on tactics_pi with petri, which will become a template for changes to other plugins. This is taking a little longer than expected, as I have other demands too.

When that is done, I will start work on changes to weatherfax, so that hopefully the macOS version will compile.

For example, this is a recent push to a new tag for tactics_pi which now results in releases, for mulltiple OS, including the macOS version. This is the result of some great collaboration by Sean, Petri, Thomas, and Jon Gough, along with some help from me.

https://github.com/rgleason/tactics_.../v1.0.010-ov50

So don't give up yest

Re: WeatherFax ...

Rramsey, do you think you could test the macos version of tactics in the link below, to see how it works/ or not? It should be considered a beta version until it is fully tested.

Re: WeatherFax ...

I'd like to add my name to the list of those interested in a OSX Weatherfax plugin for version 5.
I'd be more than happy to test anything you like and also happy to make a donation.

Re: WeatherFax ...

WiggyB
Could you try this pkg for Tactics

https://github.com/rgleason/tactics_pi/releases

opencpn-plugin-tactics_1.0.25-ov50.pkg

I see that MacOS v5.0.0 weatherfax is not available on the downloads page.
Will try to get to that at some point.

rgleason

The background image on the installer has areas of white. Unfortunately, the text is also white and so invisible, some of the buttons are difficult to see. Suggest using a darker image.
The plugin defaults to disabled. Probably intended.
Leeway defaults to using a heel sensor. I doubt many people have one. I chose the manual heel input which I assume is based on the table.
I’ll have a proper play when we go sailing next (currently in Portugal getting ready for a passage to Madeira).
