The boats I have worked on (fixing stuff like this), the added AIS transmitter was not connected to the NMEA network. It was standalone, added later to add tx to a working system. So, the data did not appear twice on the network. And, the boat owner wasn't very tech savvy (everything was installed by "professionals") so no, it wouldn't be easier to reconfigure the network which he knew nothing about.

Sad, but that is typical of 90% of cruisers I meet out there.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

I just sent my first route to my nav tablet via P2P, so freaking happy to have this feature now!

I have giant hands, and using a touch screen to try and program routes is hell, so I do it on my laptop, then send em to my tablet I use at the helm! This is saving me so much trouble! There are days I don't want to get under way because I have not wanted to screw with getting the tablet and uploading a route to it, it has been a frequent source of procrastination!

Great upgrade!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

On starting OpenCPN does not use the appropriate map, but the largest scale on. Consequently it shows "Overzoom". When zooming in once (usually not the procedure to fix an over zoom) it will switch to a smaller scale map and everything is fine.

One click to zoom-in fixes issue:

OpenCPN 5.8.4 and o-charts. Map quilting turned on and is working (after zoom).

Best,

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Hi, unfortunately the radar Plug-in labels are still garbled up when one changes to the different night time color schemes within OpenCPN.
They do not reset to their proper labels once returning to the daylight scheme.
Only remedy, close OpenCPN, restart it in daylight mode and restart the radar Plug-in.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

I'm seeing occasional crashes with 5.8.4 when zooming out with vector charts, I note there are quite a few files generated in Program Data\OpenCpn\Crash reports. Does this data get sent to the developers automatically or should I post it here?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Hi, just upgraded to 5.8.4 and most things look very good except that the data connection (NETWORK, input, UDP, 0.0.0.0, 10021) no longer receives GPS and AIS from my Furuno NN3D system.

I have wire-sharked the interface and see the packets as expected. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for this nice version.

I noticed sound quality issues on my pi4 latest release.

The 562 gives a perfect sound.

Hi Dave,

The files for the latest crash are attached, rename .zip.pdf to .zip and uncompress.

I'll add others as they occur.

I was zooming out using the mouse wheel and CM93 charts at the time.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Dear all,

first - again - many thanks to everybody involved for all the efforts and diligence. Meantime I have all "my" plugins available and they seem to run pretty well. A "real test" still to be done.

However, I am experiencing several problems, which I believe have arisen with 5.8.4: First an easy one - I purchased new o-charts for Spain and they flatly refused to show up - right over night a neversion of the o-cjharts plugin arrived and - guess what - everything is alright now.

However, another one is more persistent - when creating a "Route" out of a "Track", the system simply hangs. I have tried this several times with different inputs, but the problem stays the same.

As this IMHO is a standard function, that worked all the time, has anybody encountered the same problem? Could there be something wrong with my system? (Rpi 4 with "Buster" and on the latest level)?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Best regards,

Uwe

Uwe,
I just tried this on my Windows 10 laptop running 5.8.4 and it worked. I tried several tracks, some short and one 72 nm long. Here is what I did:
1. I opened an existing track in the Route/Marks Manager on the Tracks tab (not on the Layer track). This track was made using my Garmin handheld in December and imported into OpenCPN so I could share it easily with others. Other track was a friend who sent me his OpenCPN track last October, and I imported it to my Tracks.
2. I clicked on the track and clicked the Route from Track button. A small window flashed really quickly on my screen--so quickly I couldn't see what it was. I saw nothing else. But now in the Routes tab, I see a route of the same name. No hang. All very fast.
The same works if I open the Track and use the To Route button at the bottom of the screen.
It ONLY works on tracks that are actually in your database (ie not tracks in Layers). The button is there, but it appears to do nothing.

Hopefully someone with an RPI will try and report their findings too.
