Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Thanks for your reaction.
Not working means that no data is arriving in openCPN: nothing seen in the NMEA debug window.
I made certain openCPN and mpxconfig are not running at the same time, I fully understand the necessity. On the 2nd PC I do not even have mpxconfig installed.
Also note that on both PC's NMEA data showed immediately after reverting from 5.8.4 to 5.6.2.
So I think this is really a bug, maybe something to do with some W11 update.

One of the PC's has an Intel i5, 4 years old; the other AMD Ryzen 7 with Radeon graphics, 2 years old. Both are on openGL since I use a Simrad 4G radar.
Please let me know if you need more info.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Jef & M...
Since 5.6.2 is working it's unlikely any W11 changes can have a major impact.
Now I don't remember all changes between 5.6.2 and 5.8.4 but it can be some connection's settings was changed.

Possible far fetched but I'd have tried to delete the connection(s) in Options->Connect (Apply!) and made new one(s) with the correct settings. Click Apply and OK and check again in Options->Connect and NMEA Debug window.

Data was arriving in openCPN via Wifi UDP on both PC's.
Data from the multiplexer via USB was shown to be present by using MPXconfig at the same port and baud rate.
I went back to 5.6.2 and on both PC's the USB connection immediately worked.
Confused: Do you use wifi UDP or serial USB in to OpenCPN?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

Hi Hakan, I have just upgraded one of the 2 PC's from 5.6.2 to 5.8.4. I have also deleted the serial USB data connection like you said, and made a new serial data connection. No NMEA data is appearing in the debug window.
Furthermore now also the wifi UDP connection does not work anymore on this PC. I had a lot of trouble getting this going yesterday also, on both PC's on 5.8.4. On the 5.6.2 PC both UDP and serial USB still work.
By the way, all data connections of the 2 PC's are on input only, I disabled data output on both.
I normally use USB serial on my navigation laptop (with ethernet radar connected directly) and UDP on my general laptop, which is the backup solution (without radar).
I hope I am clear enough.

Use PuTTY & Nmap to see if you can receive NMEA data over your serial port(s) before exploring it in OpenCPN.

Have you tried running OpenCPN as Administrator in case it's a permission issue?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.8.4 Released

I have downloaded version 5.8.4 on my Macbook Air running Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.10, and I can't open it. An error message comes up saying:

"OpenCPN_5.8.4-0+637.163c28pkg" cannot be opened because it is from an inidentified develper. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.

I'd be most grateful for any suggestions

In the Finder right click the .pkg and select "open". You will be prompted to accept the install of a package from an unknown developer.
