Re: How do you splice modern ropes?

Samson has some very good splicing guides for single braid. Just look for the guides for amsteel blue. If you are talking about covered line then look for the endura braid guides. This is a little more complicated, but isn't that hard.

For tapered splices, or more complicated stuff there are other resources depending on exactly what you want to do.

The Brion Toss book "The Rigger's Apprentice" is excellent. It covers this and many other topics.

Re: How do you splice modern ropes?

Brion Toss has a good video covering splicing many different types of rope including the new stuff using his splicing tools. He also sells a book that pretty much parallels the video. Believe it's called the 'Rope Splicing Book 5'. Brion Toss Yacht Riggers, Sailboat Rigging::Books

Both are definitely worth the money.

Samson's website is an excellent resource. I refer to it for the measurements all the time.

Same as in the Old Days. Give them to the crew to do.
