I just went through the same scenario trying to understand the rating of a 1000w windlass. Even though the manufacture claims a working load of approximately 500 lbs, and the maximum pull of 1800 lbs, the circuitry is protected by a 100 amp slow blow fuse, which could never even remotely achieve the maximum pull rating of 1800 lbs (probably a current draw of 240 - 260 amps). The manufacture will not provide a table that calls out the estimated current draw versus respective load. Reading between the lines, a 1000w windlass, is fuse protected at a 100 amps, slow blow fuse, to provide a pull in the neighborhood of 500 lbs.
