For boat use a small toaster oven may be sufficiently efficient, especially it you can insulate the box. Another option is a Convection oven. I’ll get to testing the oven options eventually.
We use the NuWave infrared ovens on each boat. The heat stays focused in a very small enclosed pod to ensure high efficiency.

Re: Wow - Induction Cooktop

Are any of these induction cooktops setup with a gimbal? If not, what do you do offshore?

Mine isn't but neither is my propane stove and oven.

On a monohul I assume. Do you use it at sea on a passage?

A custom fitted cutting board sits on top of the gimballed stove, the Nuwave oven or induction cooktop sits on top of that. For the most part, our offshore passages are kept to a minimum and short, so generally we preprepare meals and freeze them to be thawed and eaten during the passage.

Re: Wow - Induction Cooktop

I asked a friend who was building a new kitchen why his noew stove was not induction. He claims that he found them to emit a loud annoying noise when operating. Can anyone verify whether or not this is the case?

They are $49 each. If you need two I doun't think there'd be any problem siting them side-by-side. They need 2000W each though.

Re: Wow - Induction Cooktop

I do have a 3000W inverter so maybe I should toss my two 9kg gas bottles and in their place fit a 2kVA a/c genset?

The "noise" comes from the contact between the pot and the cooktop. I find that putting a thin silicone baking mat on the cooktop eliminates all the noise if there is any. It's a random thing. I would not worry about it.

A. Needs to be a Pure Sine Wave inverter. Some will work with MSW inverters, some will kinda work and some pairs won’t work at all.
B. When the induction comes on some/most/all initially start at full power in order to sense the coupling to the pot and maybe to have a surge of heat to bring the active part up to temp faster. That means you probably don’t want to skimp on inverter capacity by thinking you’ll never turn it up to full power so you can get away with a 1500W inverter pushing an 1800w hotplate.

I’m going to be testing this this weekend. If I remember I’ll post here.
Great summary, thank you. Staying tuned for updates.

Did you REALLY have to post a multi megabyte 1000 x 9335 pixel image?

You're obviously not constrained by bandwdth or MB costs. Many forum members are.

I thought I was just posting the little bit about the types of saucepans, kettles, frypans that were needed. I'll see if I can delete the whole comment for you.

Doesn't look like I can delete it: too late.

I wondered why you would complain about band-width and MB costs these days but I just looked at where you are.

OMG!! Geeeeez! Sorry!

The portable units typically have a fan to keep the works cool - but they're not very loud. Our household range does make noise, but I wouldn't call it loud nor annoying - again fan sounds and sometimes a clicking sound - too quiet to describe as a noise.
