Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

No noticeable delay on my Dell D630 with CM93-2 OpenGL on/off

OpenGL on: With raster charts there is a delay of the order of 1sec with zoom using keyboard and with panning. The toolbar zoom buttons do not work: the title bar flashes white for a moment but the chart window does not change.

OpenGL off: Controls work as they should with no significant delay

Win10, VS2013, Git fetch 1 hour ago, OpenGL = on, raster and vector (CM93) charts:
Test zooming using all present tools including toolbar zoom buttons;
No detectable difference compared to earlier 4.2.1 or 4.2

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

Hi Dave

test Widows Vista

I can't notice a difference between 4.2 and 4.2.1706 beta when using zoom in /out buttons GL mode or not

But I have a big difference with the plugin performance, both loading and walking through date/time steps
it seems to come from overlay color map display and particularly in GL mode
- load a "classical" grib1 from GFS (0.25 resolution) and use next/previous button, or better, launch a playback with for example wind overlay map and you will see the difference between the two versions

Regards

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

Folks...

It has been reported that Track width and maybe colour is not changed properly according to the Properties dialog.

I cannot reproduce this on linux or Windows.

Any hints?

Thanks

Sorry, I cannot see any problem here. What am I looking for?

Anyone else have trouble here?

Thanks

re:
when the Scaled Graphics Interface (+2 Chart Object scale factor) does not work Ship icon Type> Real Scale Bitmap
reset to Default

I'm not understanding.

By design, if the ownship "Real Scale" options are set, the ship is not scaled according to GUI or Chart Objects. The ship is shown actual scaled size, with a minimum display size enforced.

If the user selects "Real Scale", it would be incorrect and misleading to additionally scale the ownship according to the GUI or Chart Object settings.

Make sense?
Anyone else have comments?

RE

Sorry, I was not clear enough.
I am speaking about speed. When loading the same file, with overlay colored map displayed, using next/previous button to walk through time steps or using playback, the 4.2.0 version is very much faster that the beta.
It is worse in GL mode and it clearly comes from overlay colored map display
Of course I tested with the same file (grib1 GFS), the same parameters and the same data displayed.

I tried just this test, and don't see any real difference.

Please attach or link your GRIB1 file, so that we can all look at the same thing.

Thanks

RE:

Here a link to the file
https://www.dropbox.com/s/39gz2djmrf...06293.grb?dl=0

Also two links to two videos showing playback running (wind arrows + wind overlay map + pressure isobars)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/e35b5l4x7b..._5529.mp4?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u36x8z3fby..._5530.mp4?dl=0

On these videos, the speed difference is clearly visible

Along my tests, I noted that without any other program open or running in the background (except Avast) thus when CPU usage near 0 to 1/%
4.2.0 playback used around 10/% CPU whereas 4.2.1706 used more than 50% CPU

I also noted that the 4.2.1706 speed was not regular.
Sometime it was reasonably speedy, sometime not. May be depending on the other programs leading to a consumption of 100% CPU

I'll test on my low powered W10 asap when on board

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

windows 7, opengl on, standard 4.2 release. If you turn opengl off the problem is fixed.

I realize this may be fixed in the beta.

Aha! Happens only with OpenGL enabled.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

Ptizef....

Thanks for the videos. I see the speed effect clearly in the videos.

But I cannot reproduce it locally. The playback seems to be just about as fast on my W7-virtual as it is on your faster video. And CPU load seems normal.

Anyone else tried this?

Thanks
