Re:

jasper crashes on https://spideroak.com/storage/NZXWQY...fc425ab31feb40

Fixed in github now.
Technical explanation... Jasper build config for linux was set to allow C99-style variable length arrays. Some of the arrays allocated on the stack were truly huge, and just blew up. Could be fixed by increasing the OCPN stack allocation, I guess. But O is not trying to recurse heavily with many small allocations, where VLA is much more efficient than malloc. So for OCPN/Jasper I disabled VLA for all platforms. Uses malloc/free instead. No detectable difference in performance.

btw, this particular GRIB2 file is pathological. OCPN has a very difficult time building iso-tachs for the wind speed. The forecast wind speeds vary wildly over short distances, particularly inland. This probably needs work in GRIB_PI.

It would be worth testing iso-tach creation on other large, high density Meteo-France GRIB2 files for comparison.

Thanks
Dave

Dave,

Is there a way I can start OpenCPN with a blank slate screen? I mean: without the default world contour chart? Can I set up my own 'default' chart perhaps?

I would like to use a blank blue slate at startup - without continents and islands on it.

As usual: big thanks for all effort!

Regards,
barnakiel

Barnakiel...
You can simply delete the gshhs data. You will have plain blue background. If you use the weather routing plug-in, it will not be able to detect land anymore. Otherwise everything will work normally.

This may already be fixed; but, a little more on tracks. If you change the color, the color doesn't actually change until you position the cursor over the track; same with style.

@ Pavel,

It works, THX. How can the same effect be achieved on Android? I looked for folders or files named gshhs and nothing found. I looked up folders under org.open... in Android folder, again nothing there.

I know this is not this thread but I did not find a better thread active now.

THX!

Hello Dave,

I have not had time to properly test this beta.

That said, the bug with waypoints too close to a waypoint of an old road seems settled.
FS#2028 : RM OpenCPN 4.2.0 Bug in New Route -Use existing waypoint yes-no

Also, these feature seem Ok now. Thank you Dave.

BUT :
On my Lenovo U41, W 10, the use of icons "Zoom +" and "Zoom -" is really difficult. It takes a lot of patience for the action actually takes place. And this, even with only the CM93.

More information, please. Are the icons non-responsive? Slow?

Thanks

I do not know if the icons are "non-responsive" or if everything is slow. Sometimes it reacts fast enough. But if I try to click several times, I feel that everything hangs. I have to wait some time for the update to take place display. There was already such slowness with 4.2 but now it's really too bad with 4.2.1,706 release.

Moreover, this afternoon, I checked the operation of the electronics on the boat. I made a crazy experience. I had a GPS which provided information on my position (in Germany) and I launched VDR to play an old track located in the Netherlands (Ok, this is a stupid test).

When I wanted to stop VDR, this was impossible. OpenCPN was not blocked but VDR could not stop pressing the red cross of the VDR small window.
For cons, I could usually stop OpenCPN.

Best regards. Gilletarom.

P.S. : We go at sea tomorrow so, sorry if I do not answer quickly on this thread.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.2.1706 Release

Hello all testers...

Regarding the prior post from Gilletarom:

I would like to hear comments regarding performance when exercising the zoom in/out buttons on the toolbar. Especially with repeated clicks.

Is there any noticeable delay compared to O4 or O4.2?

Thanks
Dave

Both the beta and O4.2 have some delay but it is acceptable.
