Having experienced 6 feet of vertical travel in a swell entering the cove, I am sympathetic to the problem. I think one solution is to also hang a boarding ladder from the midship.

When my Mercury 9.9 would run well for a bit then bog down and only run at low rpm is was an overheating problem.

I have a Beneteau 423 with a FoF 3 blade prop. It works great in both forward and reverse, way better than my OEM fixed 3 blade. No loss in forward thrust, way less prop walk in reverse.
