Re: Sailing with a Three Legged Dog
I worked with Great Dane rescue when I lived in Colorado. I was a lousy foster parent cause I wanted to keep them all. We usually had 4 Danes at a time. We brought two of our fosters to Costa Rica with us and one is still alive. He is a 150lb male who is both one eyed and blind from birth. He will be well taken care of at home when we are cruising cause we definitely won't be bringing him on the boat.

Maya is a three legged Golden Mix who we have just temporarily fostered from the local shelter at K'S PATH (Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and their habitat). She got a little depressed and gained weight after her long term kennel mate left a few weeks ago, so I brought her home to reunite with Ruby (with whom she was also kennelled for Ruby's few short weeks at K'S PATH last year).
We would love to keep her forever, but in a few short months we will be leaving on a 40' yacht with the rest of our pack, and I'm pretty sure it would be bordering on Negligence to take a three-legged dog round the world on a sailing yacht.
So, do you know anyone who would love to adopt this calm, loving and low maintenance dog? If not, share it anyway, and perhaps your friends will know someone. Pleeeeease x

Re: Sailing with a Three Legged Dog
Taken on today's Pack Walk!!
Maya was brought in with a badly healed mangled leg, which was taken off as it was neither use nor ornament. Just five days she was reticently dragging behind, but today she started playing with the rest of the Pack (there were ten dogs on our Pack Walk today)!

Shipping a dog the cheap and safe way, Find a person flying back to the states and offer to pay a portion of their airfare.

Not yet!! Until I can find a home for her and see if we need to pay for shipping, I don't want to give anyone details of the shelter's payal account... she may end up back in the shelter and wasting away.

I'm trying not to.
But in Kuwait we have far more idiots who buy puppies and dump them, than we have good adoptive homes.

Already said it, his name was Nelson. No better name for a British three legged one eyed seafaring dog. Think about it.

Dear Saucy:
1. The February comp had 600 entries...does this mean only 200 entries permitted?
Or, seeing as how the coverage is eastern seaboard of the US, are you only expecting 200?
2. Will Aussies marooned in Europe be automatically disqualified?
3. How did you get along with finding a home for the three legged dog?
