Sailing with a Three Legged Dog

OK, so I know that's not gonna happen...! But I need as much help as I can finding a new home for this one, and it doesn't have to be in Kuwait, we (as in the Shelter) can ship them out to other countries....

Maya is a three legged Golden Mix who we have just temporarily fostered from the local shelter at K'S PATH (Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and their habitat). She got a little depressed and gained weight after her long term kennel mate left a few weeks ago, so I brought her home to reunite with Ruby (with whom she was also kennelled for Ruby's few short weeks at K'S PATH last year).

We would love to keep her forever, but in a few short months we will be leaving on a 40' yacht with the rest of our pack, and I'm pretty sure it would be bordering on Negligence to take a three-legged dog round the world on a sailing yacht.

So, do you know anyone who would love to adopt this calm, loving and low maintenance dog? If not, share it anyway, and perhaps your friends will know someone. Pleeeeease x

My Dad loves Goldens... but I suspect shipping to Florida would be astronomical

Re: Sailing with a Three Legged Dog

We regularly ship Salukis (they're Arabian Greyhounds, basically) to North America - one went just last week - and a St Bernard went off last year. I think the shelter owner has an Uncle who works for an airline, so they give some discount to shelter dogs. Well, not the dogs, but the shelter when it pays for the dogs...

Thank you, that is a very kind offer... just don't tell the mods, I don't wanna get into trouble for begging, or whatever it's called... We don't allow appeals here!! BUT, I will certainly PM you, if we can find a home! And I so hope we can.... she's been with us 5 days now, and is so much livelier than she was when we shot that video on Day 2. I can't bear the thought of her going back to the shelter to be put down when we leave

I'm even considering taking her along with us now, which I know is ridiculous, but she's so sweet-natured. Oop, she's off to nibble at the cat litter now, she finally must be getting her apetite back. That's a relief!

pirate Re: Sailing with a Three Legged Dog

Having owned a technically 3 legged dog (its rear right leg was crushed when she was a pup and my father picked her up of the street in Jehlum and brought her home... she adapted... and despite a useless leg waving around became nearly as fast as our other dogs and could spin on a dime using the leg as a drag brake...
She'd likely manage.. or at the very least be happily miserable with friends..
However PayPal is WW I'm told so let me know if you need a companion to the previous offer..

Re: Sailing with a Three Legged Dog

A selling point for a three legged dog is that it will never wobble.

We had a 3 legged dog when I was a kid, it quite liked beer, then it wobbled.

What?? You don't want to emulate Tristian Jones? He wrote that he sailed with a 3 legged one eyed dog.

The stupidity nevers ceases to amaze me

Do you work / volunteer at a shelter too, then? Which one? Mine's here: Home - Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and Their Habitat - Animal Rescue and Adoption in Kuwait | www.kspath.org
K'S PATH | Facebook

Listen, thank you all for stepping up. If we can find a home to send her to, I will let you all know x
