Actually I do support you ... the beer doesn't come out until the boat is safely at anchor or tied up to the dock. I shouldn't have used 2 or 3.

Personally, drugs and boats don't mix but that's just me. As long as you don't drown her, or she ends up being escorted of the cat then what the hell it's your life. The most interesting thing will be your next post if it all turns pear shape.
Pot replacing alcohol is an interesting thought. Most of my friends are regularly drug tested as part of their job, so booze is our main vice.
Cheers
Actually, Any thread I open I carefully consider everything everyone says. Sometimes there’s a debate. Sometimes I may start out disagreeing with someone. But I still take the information in. In fact, this thread made me think it’s OK. In the first place I was actually not going to let her on the boat. You see, I started sailing about 35 years ago. At that time, you could lose your boat for a seed as the saying always went. Yes, the dirt weed was awful back then. Ha ha. I also have 100 ton master. So, it’s really been drilled into me that it’s a zero tolerance situation.

just like everyone is saying, I see people with weed on their boat all the time at marinas. Or smell it anyway. They don’t seem to have any trouble.

And since this is a really funny thread and really fun, bringing out the best in everyone on the forum, I’m glad I posted it. It kind of shows we can have a good time on here sometimes.

But I’m certainly carefully considering what everyone is saying regarding the actual situation as well. You know. Having that stuff on board or not having an on board. The thread actually changed my mind a little bit. I was pretty strongly in the “no” department.

This is precisely it. This is exactly the situation. I know so many people like this. And she is one of them. People medicate themselves with this stuff. And it works for them.

Me? I don’t react very well to the stuff.

All it does is put me in the corner on the couch and make me antisocial.

Re: Weed Smokers on Your Boat

Marijuana use is so common these days, it's hardly noticed.

I can sometimes smell it when I enter the building where my apartment is due to neighbors that smoke.

I am considering it for when I retire.

It's a good way to chill out and relax and probably would help some get a good night's sleep at anchor.

Just explain to her that this is a non-starter in what amounts to a drug interdiction zone. It is just that simple. Hard stop.

(I don't have a special problem with pot in moderation, but I sure would not want it on board my boat if I were stopped.)
This is always how I have felt as well. Like the minute I opened the thread I felt like this. I think most of us who have done things on boats in a professional sense have this drilled right into us.

And oddly enough I have never been stopped by the Coast Guard. Just the stupid local police departments. Plenty of them.

That was always on different boats however. It remains to be seen if my current boat attracts them or repels them. I think it repels them. But I only have about 1400 miles on the thing. So I don’t really know. Not enough experience with it yet.

My boardings have been brief and unpleasant. They have been annoying. Well, I was only boarded once in my 35 years. By the potty police. That was really annoying. The other time I got a ticket for my outboard malfunctioning (and not having a whistle in a dinghy with a vhf radio AND cellphone) and that really pissed me off as well.

The dinghy one was ridiculous. I had just come all the way in through an entire huge northeastern mooring field right next to a town dock. The outboard had been running terribly all the way across the field and it was starting to die completely. I goosed it right next to the town dock so that I could make it there. I goosed it, the boat accelerated a little bit and almost went on plane, and then the engine cut and I coasted my way to the dock, just barely making it. I had to buy a new engine very next thing. It was destroyed. Never used it again. This was the premise for a speeding ticket. Which they added the whistle ticket onto as well. Oh yeah. An unregistered dinghy as well. It was the middle of Covid. My state DMV was closed for months. You could not register anything. But they didn’t care. That one really pissed me off to be honest. And then the potty police got me with a boat that was brand new that I hadn’t used yet. I was moving it around in Florida to test it out. Shakedown test before bringing it up north. Pee jug full of urine at the helm because the head was broken. And they came and were able to pump dye through the head to the water and got me on that, despite the fact that I couldn’t even use the head.

Both of those were very frustrating. The dinghy one most of all.

That pumping of dye through the head is actually one of the factors that made me build a boat with no thruhulls below the waterline. F them. Ha ha.

Have you actually seen any pot lately?. There are no seeds. It's all the good stuff.

Educate yourself.. some hybrids do that with an excess of Indica, however a high Sativa content can increase focus and productivity..
The Afghan Black of the 60's/70's used to melt your face and leave you slumped but that was spiked with opium.. soft and oily and could be rolled into thin lengths for joints or into balls for a pipe or bong.
Personally I am not crazy about the modern hybrids focused on boosting the THC to crazy levels..
Give me au natural every time.

"the seas were rough
and the times were tough...

but for Chotu that simply didn't matter
despite all the negative bluster and chatter...

he knew this gal who liked to smoke
and in the process was agreeable to a poke....

so off he went at a merry speed
on his new built cat, a veritable steed....

he plotted his course, straight and true
on his new water bird with wings that flew....

with an uncanny eye for dangers ahead
as there were some obstacles on his path to a bed....

the chatterbox said, no, don't do it
by people who thought they knew it....

but by now, it was to late
his trusty steed was at the starting gate....

with a twist of his wrist, he hauled in a line
and his steed jumped forward, with bows so fine....

the froth and the fury of the wave at the bow
made it imperative to get there now...

there was no going back from his mission to be with his smoky date
he put the hammer down as he didn't plan to be late...

from here the story gets a bit murky
for us readers, it was a case of going cold turkey....

but around the globe and in the air
the wild winter winds were talking about the affair...

it was only a whisper, heard here and there
about the carnage that was left after Chotu took up the dare...

so whenever you see a wing in the sky
and a voice of thunder from up on high

that's Chotu telling you, I made it, mate
it was meant to be, you can call it fate...

Re: Weed Smokers on Your Boat

If i read correctly, your only question is a legal one.
Could bring the amount she would take along for a week bring me in any trouble?

Simple answer is to call your local law enforcement and ask to know it for sure.

For the rest, everyone is talking about like it would be a question.....
If you both want to have a vacation, you both like each other, you don't mind the smell and both consent to have a good time with or without good conversations, intimacy with or without sex, then, who am i to judge wat you should or should not do.

Actually, I’m very well educated about that stuff. I could even tell you what some of the strains are if you named them.

The problem is all of it does that for me. It reacts differently with different people just like alcohol does. Some people have different experiences than others. Weed just put me in the corner and makes me antisocial. Which is probably my default position anyway. It’s just that it doesn’t allow me to power through and be social.

That is absolutely correct. But I think the point people are trying to make is it’s not a local law enforcement issue. It’s federal.
