You aren’t looking very hard. Alcohol sales are down. Weed sales are way up. And if you go look at younger generations, it’s skewed more strongly.

Alcohol is definitely hanging on with those white claw type of drinks. Definitely. That’s their main bread and butter at this point. But they are in decline. Of course, I’m only speaking for the United States. I don’t really know anything about overseas. Just from what I see among people here.

Alcohol is no longer cool. GenZ barely drinks it at all. Nothing like we were.

Here are those articles.

Accuracy, actually. I don’t tend to attract the older ones. I tend to attract the younger ones. No idea why.

The only theory I have is that I’m not very tameable. I live a pretty weird life. Not like most people.
The younger ones see me as a lot of fun to hang around with. The older ones know better and steer clear. Ha ha ha.

SO? and how does thsi relate to Alky being replaced by pot? By the way, Herotodus says (writing about 480BC) that the Scythians smoked pot. ie "They smoked a bush that made them act drunk" and Stanley crossing Africa complained that some of his porters smoked so much ganga that they couldnt keep up and ate their weeks food rations in 2 days!

Hahahaha, Chotu, you crack me up. You should post up the dates and make sure your AIS is on so the authorities don't waste any of their time looking for you.

We all know you've made up your mind anyway so who's kidding who?

If this is an ongoing friend with advantages type thing and she knows you want to shag her. Go for it (assuming your not in a relationship with someone else).

Don't know the legalities where you are, that's your problem. Here, no one would care.

Don't forget the check list.
  • dates
  • AIS on
  • post videos.

Chotu just loving the questions you ask; we all know you're not going to take any advice from us guys.
Personally, drugs and boats don't mix but that's just me. As long as you don't drown her, or she ends up being escorted of the cat then what the hell it's your life. The most interesting thing will be your next post if it all turns pear shape.
Pot replacing alcohol is an interesting thought. Most of my friends are regularly drug tested as part of their job, so booze is our main vice.
Cheers

Chotu and his squeeze with her weeks supply, on the way to the boat.
Ever the gentleman, Chotu guided her to their love nest.

Back in the early 80's I knew a very nice lady who suffered from MS.. she could not get a decent night's sleep as the in voluntary spasms would jerk her awake and she would be exhausted the next day..
She was a non smoker and did not really approve of my social toking but tolerated it as she liked me as a friend.
Tried taking her out sailing to relax her in the hope that may help.. No such luck, relax a bit yes, sleep no.
One day I turned up with an apple crumble I had made to go as dessert for the meal she had made, the next day when I called round she was in a great mood, could not understand why but had had the best sleep in years..
I then told her my crumble recipe, apple stewed with sugar and cloves laid in a bowl and sprinkled with ground Lebanese Gold, topped with the crumble and baked for 20 minutes..
She became a crumble lover.. but definitely not drug addled else she'd never held down her job at the Town Hall.
Not everything/one is a Trainspotting train crash..
Yep, it's a crazy world. Drugs don't equal drug addict just as alcohol doesn't equal alcoholic. I worked with a girl who took 2 puffs of dope a few times a day. You would have no idea unless you were told. She used it to control pain and muscle problems, with great success. Outwardly you would have no clue, she worked with me on a professional level. I relied on her completely and she was 100% reliable in extremely intense situations. I had absolutely no reservations about it and trusted her completely.

In my case I would not want to loose my USCG Captains License or my sailboat.
So I would not take anyone on my sailboat who wants to smoke weed.

Chotu:

Have you ever been boarded by the USCG? I have twice, for no particular reason. It was brief and plesant.

But the ocean is federal waters and pot is illegal. In Florida waters, no less.

Just explain to her that this is a non-starter in what amounts to a drug interdiction zone. It is just that simple. Hard stop.

(I don't have a special problem with pot in moderation, but I sure would not want it on board my boat if I were stopped.)

Re: Weed Smokers on Your Boat

This thread is hilarious imo. I live in a country that has legalized the possession of marijuana and in a province that sells it in government cannabis stores separate from but identical to the way they also sell liquor to adults. Prior to the federal legalization, many police forces couldn't be bothered to enforce what were seen as ridiculous, time wasting laws ... more paperwork than it was worth when nobody was getting hurt. Twenty-one US states have legalized it and another 10 have decriminalized its use. One of the main arguments re legalization has been to remove/reduce criminals profiting from selling it illegally.

Some of the opinions of marijuana use expressed here seem straight out of the 1936 film Reefer Madness imo. It's not a "gateway" drug and it's not addictive. Like a lot of things excessive use of marijuana can be destructive ... I've seen some people smoke it excessively and be effectively immobilized. I'm sure that is disturbing and heartbreaking to their families. But it doesn't promote violence in the way that excessive alcohol use often does. You hear about men beating or killing intimate partners after drinking excessively, not after excessive marijuana use. IMO it is not correct to say that marijuana and alcohol use always go together ... sometimes they do, often they don't. The incendiary combination is alcohol and cocaine and they often do go together ... the cocaine fuels the drinker to keep the party going and drink excessively. And they both fuel violence while the heavy marijuana user is usually in a stupor in the corner of the room.

Of course driving a car (or a boat) while high on marijuana is dangerous, same as driving after 2 or 3 drinks, or after taking many prescription drugs ... your judgement is impaired. There have not been reliable tests for marijuana impairment because metabolites of marijuana remain in your blood for up to a month. Legalization has actually spurred more development in this area and that's good for all of us. Marijuana derivatives ARE often prescribed by doctors, at least in this country, and they provide pain relief to a significant number of people without resorting to opioids which are addictive.

To keep with the stated intent of this thread, I've allowed people to smoke both marijuana and tobacco on our boat but NEVER inside and not if the wind is blowing smoke toward an open companionway. Both stink and I'm not going to extraordinary means to get rid of the smoke smell when I can avoid it at source. But, Chotu, I'm not sure that's really the intent of your thread.

Don't kid yourself about the 2 or 3 drinks.

We used to race motor cross bikes and practice on off weekends with mates. We would chase each other all morning then stop for a BBQ lunch, we would take light beers and have ONE. When we resumed in the afternoon our reaction times were down the toilet when compared to the mornings ride.

I doubt there is much difference between motor cross racing and handling a car in an emergency situation.

I know I won't get much support 🙂 but 0% alcohol is the right number.
