Maybe not
Perhaps you need to get out more.

A westerner on a thai marriage visa doesn’t make them an immigrant allowed to work. Besides, the question of this thread is not who the yard is run by, but rather whether the workers are up to the task of a refit?

Seems you are the one here slandering the yard and owner

Google "Yacht Cariad" and tell us why you think they aren't capable?

And the owner is running out of PSS Satun again, where they did Cariad.
Gee, I'm several thousands of miles away and knew that much.

Farang,

You must have been in a different Thailand than I was. I had the topsides awgripped in Boat Lagoon for 1500 USD. A team of 6 guys prepped the boat for 6 weeks. After they shot it, I thought it looked great but the owner made the team sand and reshoot, on his dime. The new teak deck was far superior to the original Beneteau one.

Bs: you can’t even buy the awlgrip primer for that price, unless of course you’re a mono with topsides only 20ft long…..

Re: Sailboat refits in Thailand

The welding on Cariad was flawed, cost them 4mill to build and the owner sold it 4 years later for less than 2. That’s why Pope shaved off the machine shop after nearly going broke in redoos.

btw: read my previous posts, Satun is where the yard manager dropped the goodwill schooner of the slip rails, holed the hull and flooded the interior.

I’m not singling out anyone, my comment is replying to the thread that refits in Thailand is a crap shoot.

And they are in Australia as well
I know of numerous boat owners disappointed with work done here at insanely high prices

* boats lifted incorrectly, hulls sagging and decks
seperating from hulls and cabin sides

* $60,000 paint jobs on catamaran peeling after a few months

* Repaired and replaced timber work showing signs of
rot again after a few months

* Engines failing shortly after rebuilds that took forever
to get done

* A boat that had most of its planking pulled off, which
didn't need to be then workers never appeared again

The list goes on.

Don't think for a second coming to Australia and paying $100 an hour is a guarantee of happy times ahead

Start a new thread if you want to complain about Australia. The OP of this thread asked about REFITS IN THAILAND!

Cariad was one of the more expensive disasters, every bit of the original bronze fittings and accessories was removed to lighten ship just so she could get to the shipyard and every bit of that 100 year old bronze was stolen and sold. I was moored across from her in Raffles marina Singapore after the rebuild and the hull looked lumpy and bumpy like a badly built round bilge steel boat, not at all like the fair carvel hull that she originally had.
A huge amount of expense went into remanufacturing the missing chandlery and fittings, particularly for the rig. I don’t think she ever got appropriate rigging screws.

Really?
You seemed to singling out Popeye and PSS in your reply......was I mistaken?

Ignoring the fact that there are many hundreds of owners over their years of operation that have had satisfactory results.

No need to start a new thread
I was simply pointing out that the same applies ANYWHERE in the world
Refits in < insert country here> is a crap shoot

But I'd rather pay $50/ day per man for crap work than $800/day per man for crap work

Gee, I wish our hull looked as good as that after all the years of neglect

This is her at the PSS Jetty ready for the 2022 rebuild.

https://www.cariad1896.com/cariad-progress-report-1/

And how she looked in 2006 after the rebuild prior

I must say, I'm surprised they got the same company and yard involved in the second refit if they did such a crap job in the first place as is claimed

Ooops, what was the primer, how many coats? How many top coats? Clear coat? Did you even know what you got for $1500 bucks? It all looks good when you leave the dock.
