I am looking into sailing there from Seattle someday. Looking to know about good areas in Portland, OR to live aboard my boat. For approx. 6 month at a time. It won't be in the Newport 27 I currently own. I am upgrading this year 1st.

Any good info on the bar crossing would be great.

For one thing, that there is an active group in Astoria! I plan on coming that way to explore a little within the next few weeks. Eventually will move my boat down there.

I am on Hayden Island in Portland, working on a refit of a CT-41. Just thought it would be nice to know more sailors with similar interest, experience, etc. Been here since January and so far have found very few in the area to pick brains and swap lies with. Local knowledge, events, people willing to help each other out, sharing experience & techniques on certain boats... that kind of stuff. "Professional" assistance around here is at lawyers wages and often questionable competence. Fortunately, I have very little need for $100 per hour guys, but once in a while good to discuss something with someone locally who has been down the same creek. Sometimes just have too much beer and need help circulating it.

Do you think there are enough people around who would participate in a North Oregon or Colombia River sailors group on this forum?

Vino and whidbey! Hi! My boat is the blue Valiant in the yard right now. Come by and say hi Thursday or Fri. I am not sure where the local watering ground is. There are a few locals that get on this forum, most do not.
