The only question is always: "Who is stronger" and our Uhs and Ohs are a clear sign of degeneration and that always killed all folks.

Yes we should do everything possible to keep our footprint small.
DO NOT BUY NEW THINGS. USE OR BUY OLD THINGS. This will keep it small.
But if someone fights us we have to fight back. That easy.

And if they do not stop it on pain.
OK, then kill them. Again That easy.
If we do not do it we are not worth living on this planet any more.

You sound like a small minded schoolyard bully.

Your logic is flawed... so much so that one can easily use it to justify things like the slave trade and nazis.

We, as the human race, must do better to prevent atrocities like the ones I've mentioned as well as in our dealings with other species. We must also avoid destroying habitats and wanting to conquering everyone and everything that isn't like us.

your opinion does not matter. So as mine. Nature is cold as a muzzle.

using the Nazi mace gives you a position at Trotzkism an more left than that.
And the right mixture for supervised thinking.

That's a bit of an over reaction.

The noise is enough to make them back off

Seal bombs seem like a really good solution.

Exactly what is a "seal bomb"? Never heard of one before this discussion, but can't imagine it to be a nice item!

And I'm wondering if the fishing boat's solution of running the engine in reverse would work in a typical yacht... smaller prop and engine, with the prop farther forward of the rudder than in most fishing boats?

They are large water proofed firecrackers, basically identical to the old "M-80" bangers.

So what are you going to do when they actually sink and kill some people like you who don't want to harm them? I am all for live and let live until some creature develops a taste for humans like Grizzly bears who start attacking people because we are easy prey! YOU CULL THEM. IF THEY CAN'T PLAY NICE WHY SHOULD WE. Like humans Orcas just kill for sport, do some research. THIS IS LEARNED BEHAVIOR OF JUST ONE POD'S BAD BEHAVIOR.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

I´m repeating myself I know....

Simplest problem solver!

Apparently, and Im telling you as Im reading it, a Portuguese sailor from Madeira Marc Herminio has just fended off 2 Orca attacks with the simplest solution...

1- Sails down immediately
2- Start engine
3- Put boat in reverse 2/3knots
4- Have a drink and wait 15 mins

Propeller protects the ruder, the orcas go away!

Done, no more issues, no shooting, no guns, bombs, no defending your property, no pissing of wildlife lovers and all the other nonsense this tread is wandering towards.

So please spread the word and enjoy your life, Fair winds

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

Boatman I think YOU need to do some RESEARCH on Orcas and watch some videos of Orcas just playing with smaller sea creatures and just leaving the bodies behind after killing them. Humans - Cats - and Orcas have one thing in common---------------THEY KILL FOR SPORT-------not always for food! I personally like the seal bomb solution for teaching them to leave boats alone. But a government would have to do it because the average sailor can't get huge firecrackers legally! I AM NOT FOR KILLING AS THE FIRST OPTION! Only as a LAST resort.

Your attitude is myopic and not very smart. It’s easy to understand why the world is in the condition it’s in. No coincidences. 🤷🏼*♂️

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

It's easy to comment on a forum when the problem is on the other side of the planet and you don't have to live with the consequences. But once it's right in front of you, and the threat affects you and your family, things are different.

Just ask yourself:
If this happened right in front of your own harbour on a daily basis - how would you (~the local authorities) react?
How would they react after the first public uproar following the first injury / death? Guess what: these Orcas will be killed in a matter of days.

Unless this suddenly stops -and I don't see why it should- these Orcas WILL get culled. Sooner or later.

Of course they should first try to chase them away with seal bombs and see if they learn to stay away from boats. But if nothing else works, kill them.

I am sure some romantic tree huggers will now bash me. But before doing so please walk the talk and base your boat in Barbate. There is a good number of vacant berths and I am sure they will appreciate your business.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

heard of 117 incidents in the strait
Nothing that can be ignored.

OK to the biologists and orca psychologists. Stop them or we sailors do.
