Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1520 (RC2)

Hello Dave,

1 ° The operation of the property windows of roads and tracks are similar. but this operation is different from that of WPs and marks.
This should be confusing for novice users.

But, it's too late to change that.

2 ° I create a mark, then I open the properties window of this mark.
In the bottom left, there is a small visible icon that looks like a gear.

When you click on this icon a small window opens. See screenshot.
This small window seems to have a display error. And bottom right, there is a text half displayed. We do not know if there are missing buttons "Ok" and "Cancel" or not.

Hi, trying OpenCPN 4.99 release. NV Charts plugin works, but at some scales the maps looks blurred, like W10 acts when 'dealing with high dpi' is not set properly. See attachments. With regards, Kokkel.

Gilletarom & Dave

Thanks for raising this.
I think that this dialog should just be deleted. What is the point in controlling properties of future wpts from one individual wpt. What happens when this dialog is used in many different wpts? Also, I don't think that this feature has been tested enough. I quickly found a problem....

I think that properties of new wpts should only be controlled from the Options-Ships- Routes/Points dialog.

What happens when you try this?
Anyone else installing O5 from Ubuntu PPA have trouble with the help manual?

Confirm. The first click on '?' gives error at (349).

Second attempt opens screen at (350). Here all links work except 'Help'.

But if you right click on 'Help' and 'Copy URL' then paste into browser window it opens the 'Help' page. (351).

I saw this one is now corrected in Github for next release.

And I agree that copy the link into your browser is a good way in general. Then you can use the browser search facilities which is not present in the inbound web viewer.

Since a next release is planned, would it be possible to add in addition the icon "canvas" in the menu of icons (where are already the icons dashboard, grib, track, etc ...) ?

Instead of multiple clicks, this would change the single screen to a dual screen with just one click.

So, for that, it would be nice to have the canvas directly in the menu menu bar (one click).

HI Schnapsy,
I'm not a dev on this project, but I do know a feature request when I see one. O is in the Release Candidate phase. As Dave mentioned earlier, only regressions (things that used to work but are now broken) will be considered. This menu icon sounds like a great idea, but is more appropriate for a .1 release.
Fair winds,

Dave

First I must specify, it is not the link in the About page that does not work. It is the one in the first page of the local manual. I just noticed the first one only this morning.

Nothing happens but the log shows an error:

Code:
07:42:52 EDT: Error: Unable to open requested HTML document: https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/manuals.html
Probably a problem with wxwebview. Not that important considering it is available direct on the about page.
Thanks
Jean-Marie

Help manual seems to work fine for me. Installing from ppa for Kubuntu.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5 Beta Release 4.99.1520 (RC2)

Just for fun I cloned git master using Windows System for Linux (WSL) aka Bash for Windows. I built and installed the master branch. MobaXterm is a Windows app which has a "Rootless" X11 server with a primitive window manager. I started opencpn at the bash sh prompt like this:

Code:
> export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0
> opencpn
The attached screen shot is the X11 server. This is OpenCPN 5.0 RC2 running as a native Linux app on Windows 10. There is no virtual machine. It is not a windows executable either like Cygwin but a native Linux app. MobaXterm is a Windows app.

Not totally useful yet but pretty cool I thought.

I know there was at one time a desire to have a Cygwin tool chain. But with WSL the native Debian linux toolchain works. You build O exactly as if you were on a Debian based Linux using all the same native tools.
