Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Hello Dave / Users

I have not yet tested in these versions, but I would like to know if those outstanding issues regarding the permanent layers, which when enabled did not appear in version 5.6.2, unlike previous versions.

Thank you

A AIS-SART would be a class A transmitter. A N2k AIS receiver would consequently use PGN 129038 to the N2k-bus as in your example. Sounds fair and possible to implement to OCPN AIS-decoder. (If so are you able to make another test?)

But is this always true? A what's called "Man Overboard Notification" PGN 127233 would probably be used if a small (hand held) MOB device does transmit.
What's behind the decision for a N2k AIS receiver to use 129038 and/or 127233?
(PGN 127233 is not implemented in OCPN but could be I suppose)
Hakan, here is what I found on https://panbo.com/digital-yacht-trin...0-mob-buttons/

Quote:
One reason that I’m highlighting the TriNav’s MoB button is a Panbo Forum discussion about the difficulties of doing it over N2K. It turns out that while the standard MoB notification PGN 127233 has been out for six years, very few MFD manufacturers (maybe just Navico) support it yet. That’s why Digital Yacht is using the now well supported AIS MoB PGNs — actually “Class A Position Report PGN 129038 with MMSI = 972000000 and Nav Status set to 14 plus the Safety Related Message PGN 129802 with the right AIS MOB text.”
I was lucky enough to catch the MOB SART from that other boat yesterday, I was too slow to capture a candump, I was busy doing screenshots to document what is going on. On my boat, one system gave me the correct alarm (O with help from signalk), while O reading N2K directly did not, plus it showed an erroneous class A ship in dark grey at the MOB position.

Per that article above (a few years old) it seems MOB via PGN 129038 is supported by more MFD manufactures than PGN 127233. But that shouldn't stop O from supporting both :-)

Whenever I receive the next MOB alarm via AIS, I will try to capture it via candump. but that chance is very slim..

"As I have already reported why when you click on the square for the tidal diagram on S57 charts, the strengh of the current is indicated like this:- 1.5º and not kn?"

Sorry we lost this one.
Can you give a chart reference? Which charts are you using? Tidal information on S57 charts is relatively rare....

Thanks
Dave

Hello o-charts users.

o-charts plugin Version 2.0.0.21 is now available in the master catalog for installation.
This version fully supports OCPN v5.7.1+ on all supported platforms.

Thanks, and Good Luck

Don't know for sure. Please test and report, if possible.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Re PGN 127233, Man Overboard.

I personally am only aware that Vesper supports transmission of PGN 127233 when the MOB button is pressed on some of their devices, I am not aware of any other brands or models of devices that support this feature nor do I know of any mainstream MFD's that display a MOB alert upon reception of this PGN.

My understanding is that this PGN was intended for use by the MOB systems that have a device worn by the crew member and a device on-board that receives a signal when the crew member has gone overboard and subsequently generates the alert.

Support for PGN 127233 is coded in recent versions of the TwoCan plugin (not that it does anything meaningful other than drop a waypoint witha MOB icon), but the OCPN developers could use it as a template for parsing the PGN if none is available in Timo's libraries and then coding the appropriate actions.

It would be fantastic to receive a candump of this PGN to verify both the implementation in TwoCan and in whatever support is provided in the current release of OCPN.

Note that PGN 127233 is quite different to PGN 129038 which in addition to transmissions from Class A AIS transceivers is also generated upon receipt of a transmission from an AIS/SART, AIS/EPIRB or AIS/MOB device which as we all know have specific MMSI prefixes and AIS Navigation Status values.

This is showned on Canadian Hydrographic charts S57 as it is indicated on raster charts. See the join print.

P_Dub....
This is a little strange.
For the chart that I have, at the same location you reference, I see reasonable results on linux. See attachment. I will test Windows next.

A surprise. On Windows, I produce the same result as you have shown. Different from linux.

I acknowledge a bug. Will take a closer look.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Several people have reported seeing the The 64 bit version of OpenCPN 5.6.2 as distributed with Openplotter hang when exiting the program.

On my Raspberry Pi 4 reported CPU usage goes to 24% in task manager and >95% in scrot. After 5-10 minutes the program exits normally.

Has this fixed in 5.7.1? Any thoughts on a work around?

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Running here the RPI4 with Raspian64 (Debian Bullseye) with addition of the OpenPlotter add-ons.

Also with Ubuntu Kinetic 64 bits for the RPI4. And with the latest Fedora Rawhite.

On all the 3 systems with the Flatpak version of 5.7.1 beta 2.

OpenCPN Runs very well. All with the Oesenc plugin working.

This on a RPI4 with 2 GB. A 4 GB RPI4 is still not available.

With the latest Eeprom version Raspian OS can be installed direct form the internet server.

No longer using an SD card but running from a fast USB3.1 64 GB stick.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

I could not locate the tag Beta_5.7.1_2, so I tested on master Head, 1e87e2082.

The "move boat here" issue with scaled display on Ubuntu 22.04 has changed but is not solved. After a "move boat here" the boat icon moves first to the clicked position, jumping to some other position after a second or so. This also occurs with scaling 100%. I am using NVIDIA drivers.

I earlier mentioned SetPositionFixEx() which is indeed called every second. But the pfix.FixTime == 0 with no GPS connected. I checked with 5.6.2, here pfix.FixTime == now without GPS. This change could be intentional, that is FixTime=0 when there is no real fix but just a boat icon position.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.7.1 Beta Test #2

Hello,

I was able to make VDR work with my old files from my recordings with VDR.

But these are:
- on the one hand files in NMEA 183 only,
- on the other hand with actually "minimal" data, I lack data files for VDR to also test data from NMEA 2000 sources.

If it were possible to download some, it would be of great service to me to update the tutorial in French opencpn.fr

So ???? Thank by advance.
