Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Hello Dave

There was a delay as my RPi SDCard got corrupted which I am quite sure was de to he Compress Charts Option.

In my case the MBTiles chart that WAS working fine in v5.0 is about 20GB in size. When I click on the Compress after some time the window didn't refresh and was not closing so I pulled the power. On reboot kernel panic due to locked SDCard.

It might pay to add a second prompt on Compress Charts defaulting to No

In any case v5.2 is great apart from the annoying regression for me with my MBTile chart. I construced from SAS Planet and confirmed it views with MapTiler Desktop Free Edition. It's such a pleasure to be able to make your own charts and have them used in Open CPN If this can be made t ofunction as was under v5.0 it would be great.

AllLake_7 is the chart file giving some issues.

Many thanks

I took what I could from the log as below:-

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

pcox...
I assume that "about 20GB in size" is a typo?
If not, I am amazed that it could ever work on a rPI.
More info needed....

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Bit late, I guess but I just wanted to throw our thanks in too. Been suing it for years on a series of Raspberry Pis, plus laptops. Totally dependable, thank you!

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Hi Dave

And breath out I wish I was 10000% sure why but apart from playing with the Fake GL driver in RPI I'm not sure but now v5.2 works very well.

Strange as the same config did work in v5.0 ten failed to work with no RPI config change in v5.2

Anyway Please close and kickback with the thought of another happy user.

Many thanks

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Still seeing a possible watchdog issue with this version regarding loss of instrument data.

Data is from Shipmodul by USB to laptop.
Notice issue seems to occur if -

1) turn on instruments
2) data into OPENCPN ok
3) Turn off instruments
4) Turn on instruments again maybe 5 minutes later

5) No data received after several minutes underway into OPENCPN. NMEA data is coming from Multiplexor by wifi and on N2K instrument displays

Unsure if there is a time to recheck with watchdog??

I had to unplug/replug USB to get data into Opencpn again. Will monitor over next few days.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Bug in downloadplugin in MacOSX with "workaround":
Bug: When adding a chartcatalog in MacOSX, the adding from the predefined catalogs does not work. You can choose a catalog but it isn't added to the list after choosing :-(
Workaround: The workaround is adding the catalog though the Custom-tab. You then first will have to copy the settings from the desired predefined option to a text-editor and then use those settings while adding through the Custom-tab.
A additional inconvenience in this, is that the height of the text-field for the xml-path in the settings-screen is "non-existent", so it needs a bit of blind acting ;-)

I'm sorry not to have mentioned this bug before release of 5.2 but I'm not a Mac-owner myself and haven't checked the workings on a Mac.
My wife is though, and she wanted to know what all the OpenCPN-fuss was all about, and ran into this :-D

I have entered the bug into Flyspray as well, but I thought it handy for people that run into the same problem to see it here as well and maybe can use the workaround as long the bug isn't fixed.

Data is also stopping from multiplexor with OpenCPN running for a few hours - came off watch to all instrument data blank/not updating. Laptop is not sleeping and have disabled USB power management options.

Unplug/replug USB to fix.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

De new Ubuntu 64 bits version Focal voor de Raspberry Pi 3 and 4 is just released. With OpenCPN allready in de repository for easy installation. However it is version 5.00. For 5.2 you have to use the ppa server settings. Installation of the Ubuntu Focal version is more complicated then the image of the beta RaspiOS. You have to add a lot of applications yourself.

OpenCPN 5.2 is working very well and fast on this new OS.

What is not working yet: the SignalK installation and the OpenPlotter add ons.

I installed 5.2 on one of my Windows machines. Much faster than 5.0! Vector charts unpack quickly. Thanks guys!

Oesenc plugin is not in the latest plugin list. The usb sg-lock key shows in usbview.

Perhaps I need a later version of OpenCPn for arm64.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Hi.

I don't know: it's a problem in OpenCPN or in the Dashboard plugin...
After changing the suorce of data about position from "TCP (NMEA0183)" to "SignalK", GNSS data comes in, and openCPN sees it, but the "GPS Status" on "Dashboard" is empty ... (but "Position", "SOG" etc. are correct).

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Working with @antipole2 on his 'JavaScript_pi' plugin.

The plugin can be modified to use wxStyledTextCtrl on Linux(Ubuntu) and Windows, but not MacOS. I believe this is because OpenCPN is not compiled with wxWidgets 'stc' enabled. Could an interim version of OpenCPN (MacOS) with stc be made available?

An issue has been raised on GitHub:

Your observation is correct.
But it's SignalK that not parse the "GSV" sentence to a JSON message. Number of satellites "GPS in View" from GGA are though there.
