Just did some tests with the latest Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla on an AMD64. To my surprise OpenCPN is allready in de repository available. However it is only version 5.

Trying to get 5.2 working seems not to be possible.

OpenCPN 5.2 does work in Groovy G. Simply by changing Groovy with Focal in de settings (Synaptic).


Also the plugins can be installed. Not yet tried the Oesenc plugin.

Tried the Oesenc plugin 4.2.17. Did not work in combination with the Oesenc plug.


I revert to an earlier problem that is:


installing libusb-0.1-4 or -1.0.0


Now also the Oesenc cards work in combination with the Dongle.


And this very fast. Almost too fast in the standard settings.

Remember to center on the chart set area and zoom in strongly to trigger the display. Is this the problem with you?

Hi Dave,

it is a problem that was also the cause for not working of the Oesenc dongle before.

The standard Linux versions do not have the libusb installed. If you install libusb-1.0-0 then the Oesenc charts work in combination with the usb dongle.

Works very well and fast in combination with AMD64.

Now testing the groovy gorilla on my Raspberry Pi. This also works with OpenCPN version 5.2. Not yet tried the Oesenc plug dongle. Do this tomorrow.

Kernel version on both systems is 5.8.

Good morning Dave,


I can report that also the Oesenc charts are working with the usb dongle on my Raspberry Pi 4 with the Groovy Gorilla 64 bits version.



After searching for the Oesenc plugin (focal version) . Was not available in O en changing the libusb version.


The Groovy has a nice interface. The only thing I don't like is the Gorilla looking at me.
