OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
---------------------

15 July, 2020

OpenCPN Version 5.2 Released

The OpenCPN Development Team is proud to announce the release of OpenCPN Version 5.2

This version is a feature upgrade and maintenance release of OpenCPN.

OpenCPN is a cross platform electronic charting system (ECS) supporting a variety of cartography standards and hardware interface protocols. Versions are available for Linux, Windows, Macintosh, and ARM computer architectures.
Since widespread introduction in 2008, OpenCPN has gained a solid reputation.

OpenCPN is running on hardware from tiny Raspberry Pis with 4" screens up to networked workstations. Specific user scenarios and needs are easily accommodated by using the Plug-in architecture and the wide scope of user settings.
A responsive international user and developer community together with integrated documentation help make installation and use of OpenCPN a pleasure.

Some of the features of OpenCPN include:

Quilted Raster(RNC) and Vector(ENC) digital chart display
Full compliant support for official vector charts in S-57/S-63 format and InlandENCs
Industry standard GPS receiver interfacing, with "moving map" on-screen vessel tracking
AIS receiver interfacing with configurable target safety monitoring
Integrated Route, Track, and Waypoint database, with industry standard Import/Export capabilities
Tide and Current prediction, with on-screen overlay of predicted data.
Broad International Language support
PlugIn architecture allowing on-going third-party functional enhancements

OpenCPN is released under the GPLV2 license. The executable program and its source code are available for immediate, free, and unlimited download from opencpn.org, and several other sources.

As a successor to OpenCPN Version 5.0, OpenCPN Version 5.2 contains many new features and enhanced functions.

Among them are:

..Updated Plugin manager, supporting directed download and installation of many plugins from a secure repository.
..Support for SignalK network servers, providing enhanced sensor data from a wide variety of sources.
..Several updated and improved plugins
..Corrections and fixes for several bugs and operational issues as reported by the worldwide user base.
..Measurably improved performance and reliability over all supported platforms.

We hope you enjoy the new features of OpenCPN Version 5.2, and look forward to your continued feedback and support.

More information is available at opencpn.org

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Hello Dave,

I installed version 5.2, after having conscientiously cleaned up the old beta version installed.

Display of the maps: Ok (oeSENC and RNC Brazil).

Activation of Grib and Dasboard: Ok.

Then I wanted to activate Weather_routing 1.13. I have not tried to upgrade to a newer version of WR. At this point everything seems OK.

BUT :
When launching WR, O 5.2 crash.

- My ini and log file. Please, put out ".doc" and unzip it.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Dave,

Other test:

I restarted OpenCPN then I updated the master catalog of plugins.

I installed version 1.13.14 of WR, offered by the catalog.

I started WR: And this time, no crash. This version of WR seems to work.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

For reference, a workaround for the issue with Linux 20.04 (focal) + OpenGL + GTK3 + screen scaling display problems: I have successfully installed opencpn_5.2.0.1-0_bionic1_amd64.deb (which is GTK2 based, and has all the dependencies OK even on focal) and everything works fine.

Of course, I had to tweak the scaling sliders a bit in order to make all the elements properly displayed (note that the screen size is misdetected - probably because of the screen scaling - but if I force the screen size some elements - like current icons - are huge)

What amaze me is that you still have the zone time error for Country that do not keep Daylight saving time. Can I recommend that someone change this please. I did ask for it a long time ago. Good job for the rest, Thanks you so much.
Best Regards.

That "Someone" could be you! If I understand things correctly you are well qualified to edit the HARMONIC.IDX file and understand the problem! Think about it!

Thank you Dave

Leaving tomorow for a 3 weeks fishing trip.
The HDG up chart orientation is just fantastic for me
Together with the COG vector to drift over waypoint is so easy

Thomas. that has to be done in the file providing the zone time for each country and not in the HARMONIC .IDX file. My work has been done correctly.

Thank you Dave for the perseverance!

FYI It is the exact same version. P
PS: Did you check the SHA? It might have been corrupted by your isp or something.

Re: OpenCPN Version 5.2.0 Released

Rick...
On WR crash:
I suspect there is some initial data not correctly present of the first invocation of WR. Subsequently, the data is somehow present, and no crash.

I will experiment.
