- Specified time: The 'specified time' will be defineable in a way not yet decided and not yet implemented.

Would not that be a usable solution? No absolute postion and no distance from that position. This is the way the GPS Odometer is intended to be used with the Trip functionality plus you get Departure and Arrival times.
The design is already, as standard, halfway there and no redesign required. Just the auto trip reset additions I'm already working on.

Looking forward to try your next version. Thank you!

Franziska,
Have you looked at the Logbook Konni plugin? It has features similar to what you are discussing.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Hi.

Latest OpenCpn Version.
Latest Plugin Version from updated Master catalog.
Current Windows 10 64bit

See attached.

When I enable this plug-in, there is an instant crash.
I even reinstalled OpenCpn from scratch.

Hope this helps.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Guys, need some help here!

I have no access to any Windows platform and considering the several hundreds of downloads since version 0.8.0.0 was released there must be other users running a similar setup.
Any more getting crashes?

Re: GPS based Odometer

Lennart, win11 o5.8.4, odometer 0800 works fine. Only problem was the text is too small on this high res display. Had to reset the text sizes. It would be nice if Odometer had high res DPI responsive text sometime.
See https://github.com/OpenCPN/plugins/issues/942

I will say that this is the first time in awhile that I have enabled odometer, so perhaps the crash has something to do with the settings in the config.ini?

Re: GPS based Odometer

Rick,
thanks for the reply and info. I will take a look at the highres you linked, looks doable. The GPS Odometer is based on an older version of dashboard.
Regarding the crash I would guess something not really Odometer related. There are no options in the config file that should be able to cause it. All old settings are still used and if the new options could cause a crash, then more people should have experienced it. They are added the way I've always used.

I agree with you about the crash. More information is needed.

I'll look into it tomorrow.

I upgraded all plug-ins and got the crash.
I did a complete clean reinstall of OpenCpn. No crash. Then, I installed and activated the plug-ins one by one. When I did this with the GPS Odometer it crashed.
Restarted without activated plug-ins & removed GPS Odometer.
Restarted OpenCpn with Plug-ins enabled (without GPS Odometer amkngst them) and no crash...

Re: GPS based Odometer

Franziska, still confused.
There are no other reports of crashes in any environment so some important piece(s) of the puzzle is still missing.

1/ You say 'when activating', so the installation went ok then? Please attach the opencpn logfile from the installation.
1b/ If installed but not activated, does it still crash?

2/ Version 0.7.4 had a new function that wrote information into the plugins data directory. Did you have that version installed? If not, then verify that you have proper access rights to the plugins/data/gpsodometer_pi directory. Failing access rights may manifest as 'green puzzle-pieces' instead of icons in the menu. This function is extended with more options in 0.8.0.0 nut still using the same procedure.

3/ There could be a data corruption in the opencpn configuration file. Have you edited it manually? One option is to simply make a backup copy of the original config file and then start opencpn again to generate a new file. You may then copy the original config file back again.

Re: GPS based Odometer

I have the same crashing Opencpn after installing latest version.
It works fine on a 'virgin' install on my home pc. But my x86 Win 10 boat pc which has run all season ok has the crash.
It fails as soon as I connect the GPS input, or start VDR playing an nmea file.
I have dump files etc if it helps.
Where is the distance data stored I don't want to lose it if I do a fresh install to get round this problem?

Re: GPS based Odometer

I have found that it is a data related problem.
by effectively deleting the .log files in

C:\Users\yourusername\appdata\local\opencpn\plugin s\gpsodometer_pi\data

It some how remembers the sumlog.log data.

So presumably the crash is data related.

deptime.log was "2023-06-27 17:19"
arrtime.log was "2023-10-01 11:44"

If I put the arrival time back to what is is above , opencpn crashes once more

So this is the bug - hopefully you can fix fix this please.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Graham...
If the problem is in sumlog.log, could you post here the entire log, and describe by line numbers the changes you needed to make for success?

Thanks
Dave
