Re: GPS based Odometer

That makes sense Lennart. My laptop does indeed have an SSD for C: drive. It's an older laptop that has been updated to an ssd too. So yes, by your description I can see it struggling.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Finally there is a new version (0.8.1) of the GPS Odometer available in beta. There are some significant changes that need be tested before generating a production release.
1/ A completely rewritten file handling system that should cure the Win10 loading crashes.
2/ A logging system, enabled in the settings menu, that log trips up to one month. There is an option for trip stops where either all trip stops or trip stops longer than a defined time are logged.
3/ The log also has a built in viewing generator for txt, csv or html formatted outputs, just ensure that there is an associated viewer available on your system. The viewing option is selected right-clicking on the instrument.
4/ An Auto reset trip function is available as a checkbox in the odometer dialogue. This allows a Reset Trip to be automatically executed when starting a preset time after the last arrival. The time is set in the settings menu.

It should be available on all currently supported platforms, but Android, referencing TP v1.0.278.11.
Note that no localization has yet been done.

Re: GPS based Odometer

today and yesterday tried for the newest version 0.8.1 and could not find it in beta catalogue and after update the only I got is updated 2023-12-01 18:13 and plugin not available too.
in master catalogue available version 0.8.0 when installed it seems to be properly installed but again displayed as available to download, re-started OCPN and got attached screenshot.

windows version pro 11 (x64 & ARM64 versions)
OCPN 5.9.0-0+d6c4868ff

uploaded the log.log file as zip, remove the pdf extension.
I had yesterday to clean up all the leftovers of the plugin because it gives me some splash screens on OCPN start and was not able to uninstall it, because supposed not to be.
so maybe, there won't be so much info in the log file.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Corsair, there appears to be a problem with the generated dll file. I found this, repeated numerous times:

MESSAGE plugin_loader.cpp:1198 Compatible wxWidgets plugin library found for C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpsod ometer_pi.dll: wxmsw32u_core_vc14x.dll
MESSAGE plugin_loader.cpp:1338 Plugin is compatible: true
MESSAGE plugin_loader.cpp:1354 PluginLoader: Loading PlugIn: C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpsod ometer_pi.dll
ERROR dlmsw.cpp:167 Failed to load shared library 'C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpso dometer_pi.dll' (error 127: No se encontr\F3 el proceso especificado.)
MESSAGE plugin_loader.cpp:1399 Ignoring blacklisted plugin gpsodometer_pi
MESSAGE plugin_loader.cpp:1409 PluginLoader: Cannot load library: C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpsod ometer_pi.dll

- Have no idea what 'error 127: No se encontr\F3 el proceso especificado.' indicates as my spanish id non-existent. There is also an error message about illegal characters in the zip file, maybe that is it?
- The blacklist is likely because a previous failed load attempt.

So, does it even start the application or is the 'wxmsw32u_core_vc14x.dll' not compatible with your windows version?
It says so but I'm confused about the 'w32' and have no idea really.

Someone else able to share some light on this? It happens also on the released 0.8.0 version downloaded hundreds of times.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Corsair, could be very simple, please verify that the dll file is found at the location

C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpsod ometer_pi.dll

The message actually says that the file is not found at that location. It does not complain about running anything, does not get that far.
Also: If you see a space in 'gpsodometer' above it came from cut'n'paste. I did not put it in there! Is it just in the preview or in your system as well?

Re: GPS based Odometer

Hi LennartG,

gone to C:\Users\corsa\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\gpsod ometer_pi.dll

and dll found (without space as per attachment). I don't know why was inserted one space.
In my previous message I've made a double check in the strings and there is no space like:
gpsod ometer_pi

first of all, the beta catalogue irrespective what I'll do of refreshing, etc. is only 2023-12-01 18:13 dated and plugin not present.

plugin 0.8.0 only available in master catalogue, gone to https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...ckages/?page=1 and found windows version 0.8.1,
downloaded
import the plugin
available to install and install it
plugin installed successfully and click apply.
not seen in the icon in the toolbar and in setup again seen 0.8.0 as available to install??
re-started OCPN and seen the attached screenshot.

what to say??

and I have no way to uninstall because it's shown as not installed in OCPN

Corsair...

Just delete the .dll file highlited in your first screenshot.
OCPN will perform normally, and you may try another import when a new version is ready.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Corsair, time for a short recap:
1/ You are using windows version pro 11 (x64 & ARM64 versions) and OCPN 5.9.0-0+d6c4868ff.
Version 5.9.0 is a beta test, does this affect the problems?
2/ GPS Odometer 0.8.0 refuses to install with the message 'error 127: cannot load the specific process'.
The file is at the correct location in spite of the error message so does it 'just' refuse to load?
3/ GPS Odometer 0.8.1 beta version is not found at all.
Are there any windows versions listed when using the 'select flavor' button. I can see two windows tarballs in cloudsmith, also listed when i select flavor:
https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...+1972.d5a884a/
https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...+1963.d5a884a/

Could this be due to some other setting or OCPN 5.9.0 version?

OR is it the older GPS Odometer version blocking as Dave indicates. I suggest to follow his advise.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Hi Dave & LennartG,

every time I tried to install the plugin I've did it manual clean-up of odometer installation and tried with version 0.8.1 from cloudsmith and same results.

in order not having splash window on OCPN start I have to clean GPSodometer manually, no problem for it, but not able start the plugin.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Corsair, beats me!

I know there are many users using version 0.8.0 on Windows. I've had 3 reports on file handling (?) crashes on Win10, that's all. Version 0.8.1 has a new file handling structure plus a bit more.

Anybody else been able to install 0.8.1 beta on a windows platform? In that case, which platform?
A sidenote: I've not used a Windows platform in many years, just Linux.

also tried with another computer O 5.9.0-0 and win 11 Pro x64, that I use to have in spare just in case for the boat, same result using 0.8.1 it says that is properly installed but after a few second the splash windows that is not able to start and restarted O and same window as attached in previous messages.

I had to do a manual clean-up in order not having the same screen on starting O.

0.8.1 is not in the beta catalog.

0.8.1 installs fine and responds to my gps if I download from the beta cloudsmith repo.
Using Win 10 and OpenCPN 5.8.4.

Re: GPS based Odometer

Mike, thanks for the test, just what I was hoping for, and Win10 as well .

Corsair, my guess is that it is somehow related to vers. 5.9. I will test on that (but still on Linux )

About it not in the beta catalogue: My mistake as I failed to change in CMakeLists.txt, sorry!
Downloading from Cloudsmith should work fine though.
