Re: Feature Requests

Regarding Climatology Plugin by Sean Depagnier (boat Alexandra) (with my help downloading 138gb of data from Noaa to be compressed with Sean's programs). First I would suggest you make a paypal donation to him and then ask if that would be possible. Only the four main plugins have been compiled for andriod. As I understand it the process is arcane but possible.

Okay. Thank you. What is Android PI? Is that Android and/or Raspberry PI?

Re: Feature Requests

Frankly, I would steer clear away from BT devices (GPS, AIS, nav data) as pairing and activating seems to be a case of hit and miss, both on Android and other systems (Windows, in my case).

I have built and Android GPS sender and an Android AIS decoder/plotter and for my own use I made then available on wifi, not on BT.

Maybe different Androids and devices have more luck but to me fighting odd BT challenges is not what I want to do when a ship is approaching.

Short answer: OpenCPN handles BT devices like gps, ais, nav isntruments. Tried tested and found working.

Cheers,

Hi Barnakiel

Just for your interest I received my HC-05 Bluetooth module. Pairing and configuring to Opencpn no problem. The Android tablet sees it, asks for password 1234 and off you go. Opencpn sees it if you scan in Bluetooth.

Re: Feature Requests Apple iPad app

I apologise in advance on an issue that must have been discussed ad nauseam but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere (forum or internet).

Are there any plans to offer an OpenCPN Apple iPad app?

There are many reasons which forbid a version for the iOS operating system (Apple iPhone and iPad). Even for the Apple macOS it has becoming more difficult to install OpenCPN due to the GateKeeper safety feature.

Re: Feature Requests

Oh well, I take that as a no, as in no plans to offer an iPad version. I was just hoping.....

I Googled Gatekeeper which seems to be just like the definition of the name. I would think Microsoft may be moving in the same direction eventually. Even downloads through Chrome is getting pickier in the latest version.

Thanks for the reply.

A thread from "yesterday", but I did not notice there might be a change, I do not miss it either. Are Ipads waterproof already?

Re: Feature Requests

No, iPads are not waterproof but you can easily buy a cover that is.

AIS Radar Plugin Additional Information

Please add the vessel status (such as at anchor) and the turning rate to the vessel display on the AIS Radar plugin.

When viewing your vessel's position up close for safe navigation the radar display should show vital information to avoid zooming in and out to determine the situation with regard to vessels in the area.

Thanks,

Terry

Re: Feature Requests

I have now added feature request #2267 asking that certain values be persisted from run to run, like:
  • Values, like AIS Track Length, which always defaults to 60 min
  • Column widths, like Track Properties time/date
  • Dialog box sizes and positions, like Track Properties, which always wakes up too small
These are the values that I'm always resetting, but I'm sure there are others that folks are continuously resetting. If so, add your comments to the request, and remember to vote for it to push it up the priority stack. Thanks!

The turn rate barb at the end of the course predictor is in V1.0.

Yes, you are right. But it's only shown if the vessel has connected it's turn rate sensor to their AIS stream. I've now seen it on international flagged vessels but the anchor status is still not seen.

Here in the Philippines I see minimal compliance with requirements. I have seen merchant vessels with class B AIS transponders. And many lack input from heading and turn rate sensors ... which begs the question of if they have them.

I have VDR recordings of passing vessels if anyone needs one for testing just let me know.
