Re: Feature Requests

Hi all, I add a suggestion to this long list. I like the "center view" function but I think it would be very useful to get the cursor automatically centered on the given position. Many thanks to the developers for all this wonderful job.

Re: Feature Requests

I have two suggestions for OCPN when sometimes you need quick access to features instead of diving in menus:
- quick access to "NMEA debug window" could be in the Tools menu.
- an access or icon to "NMEAconvert app" in the screen could be as icon in the bar or also an access in tools menu. because when you need it, you must go options - plugins - and search for the app - click on it and select preferences.

Re: Feature Requests

You should not really ever need this once the system is set up and working, but perhaps a more general "user defined icon" that allows you to create and icon and link it to any command could be an idea then peopl can set up icons for whatever it is that they think they need.

Re: Feature Requests

Hi Antipole, your plugin seems the right tool in regard of my request, unfortunately I am unable to install it. I have tried on my Raspberry running OpenPlotter v4 once installed JavaScript v.3 with the last release of the master plugin directory. Once the plugin url loaded as per your instructions in Github, I start run but get "SyntaxError: source decode failed (line 120)".
I have the same behaviour on my Windows 8 computer, with the difference that the version 3 of JavaScript is not available for this version of OpenCPN.

Have you some idea on this issue please?
Many thanks, Eric

Re: Feature Requests

So you can install the JavaScript plugin v3 OK but the PointUtility script fails to compile?

This error sounds like one we had to deal with for Windows caused by the degree symbol.

Would you be willing to work with me to track this down? Please raise it as an issue on the PointUtility issues here.

PointUtility will never run with JavaScript plugin versions before v3. The script makes use of features new in v3 - many to facilitate scripts like PointUtility.

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks for your response, Antipole.
To summarize:
- on Raspberry with Openplotter, Javascript V.3 is installed but PointUtility fails to compile. After starting run I got the message "SyntaxError: source decode failed (line 120)".
- on Windows 8, the Javascript version available in the plugin catalogs (master, beta or alpha) is curiously named -1.0.0. I have installed this version and the result when loading then running PointUtility is the same. I got the message "SyntaxError: source decode failed (line 120)".
I will post this information on your Github issue directory.

Re: Feature Requests

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
OCPN 5.8.4

Add the possibility to change the Tab Font Color in the Menu/Option dialogue window.
I have looked in opencpn.conf file for this but could not find any tag for this.
The current tab font color is black and unreadable.

Re: Feature Requests

Maybe you have older version of OpenCPN. Mine is 5.8.4. To change font color select Menu, User Interface and choose font. Any style face, color and its derivatives. I use black and works for me.

For degree symbol which is superscript of regular 'o' or '0' (zero) copy from existing value of position. .

Re: Feature Requests

By the way. Why you are using black background, You should change it under option View.

Re: Feature Requests

Serge, you appear to be using one of the night modes? There are a couple of bugs already filed about text disappearing in various night modes.

Jon, the original post is on Day Mode... below :
  1. for comparison is the Night Mode where the tab text color is lighter and more readable.
  2. and another capture of the Day Mode to illustrate the problem.
Changing the text color of the tab in the Option Menu from Black to White for Day, Dusk and Night mode would solve the problem... again, I could not find any corresponding tag in the opencpn.conf and the drop down font menu in Menu, User Interface does not include the font for the tabs.

p.s.: One will notice I am using a Dark Mode on the Desktop. I find this very easy for the eyes at sea particularly at night as it does not wreck my night vision...

OK, I smell smoke.

What happens if you're not using a Dark Mode on your desktop?
Does this problem still occur?

Granted, in an ideal world, OpenCPN would work (display) correctly in all modes, but that's also a tall order, given the available testing & all the corner cases. The more info you can provide, the easier the Devs can deal with it.
