Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Dave

I now have a clean download on a pristine OS image. That's my system currently and the system I sent the .conf file from. The = - bar is still smack dab in the center of the display. I did this installation on a Pi 4 instead for the Pi 400 to rule out a hardware specific problem. Have you managed to reproduce my problem?

Thanks
Richard

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Richard....

I reproduced the error.
This is a "semi-known" bug in the newest Raspberry-PI OS. It relates to the new default display system called "Wayland", replacing the older X11 system.

For more info, read this:
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/discussions/3469

Fortunately, there is a workaround for OpenCPN.
See this:
https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.co...ead-of-wayland

tl;dr;
Wayland on Rpi OS is evidently not quite ready for primetime.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Using X11 instead of Wayland on my Rpi5 arm64 and OCPN is back to normal graphic behavior for menus, Dashboard and more. (keyboard shortcuts is one)

Thanks

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Thanks Dave,
The fix worked like a charm! I'll keep github.com in mind in the future. I would never have figured this out on my own.

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

I ran into the same issue with the latest Raspbian. OpenCPN does work well on Ubuntu 23.10, which I believe also uses Wayland.

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Zags...

RPi uses a custom built Display Manager, adapted from XFCE, IIUC.
The problem with running OCPN lies there, I believe.
OCPN works fine on Wayland, if using standard Display Managers like Gnome or KDE.

Would be interesting to test OCPN on Debian/12 using bone-stock XFCE. I did consider switching one of my dev systems to XFCE and Debian/12. IIRC, there were display problems with other desktop apps (e.g. CLion), so I abandoned the effort.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Chart bar in wrong location

Hello!

I am having the same problem. I tried the wayland workaround to x11 and when rebooting my screen was blank. I had to go through SSH to restore it. any thoughts?
