SasPlanet

I know this is not a SasPlanet forum but it is used in conjunction with Opencpn, now I've clicked on Navionics charts in SasPlanet and for the life of me I can't seem to go back to the original Google Earth satellite map, can someone please explain how to get back to the original map.

Cheer Rod.

Cheer Rod.
A tip. There are hot-keys to select the maps in SasPlanet. For example:

A = ArcGiS
B = Bing
G= Google Earth
J = C-Map
N = Navionics Marine
O = Here.com
Y = Yandex

When an area is displayed it is easy to find the 'best' view you want by stepping through the hot-keys.

Re: SasPlanet

Cheers for that Terry, I'm finding that the pixel quality of the sat maps are not very clear at all especially when zoomed in, hopefully I'm doing something wrong or is there a particular one to use, as I'm new to this I have only used the Google earth one.

Hi Rod,

Yes, the pixel quality varies between the map sources and also the zoom level can go further in on some compared to the others. That's why 'playing the hot-keys' helps you find the best. But, alas, sometimes there just isn't a good image to be had.

Re: SasPlanet

Regarding resolution, l tend to use levels 19,18,17,16,15,14 when downloading and exporting. That gives usually a high quality zoomable result when the source is Google, Bing or Navionics.
To download further resolution levels is not adding relevant detail in the very most circumstances.

I normally export to geo referenced MBtiles and sort them into chart groups.

Re: SasPlanet

Do you need Sat2Chart to create MBTiles or can it all be done in SAS Planet?

Can directly be done in SASplanet.

One more, dont make the MBtiles to big. For example, I made some for the northern coast of Spain.
Total northern coast in one set was to big. Splitting it into 3 overlapping ones was better. My PC can handle that easily.

It can be done in SasPlanet but Sat2Chart automates the process and adds additional capabilities. I have made thousands of charts with Sat2Chart.

Hi Terry - what additional capabilities does it add?

This is the Sat2Chart program 'front end'.
- Four options for a source of charts.
- Three options for type of chart
- Three chart types to create
- Ability to edit a chart
- Ability to view an mbtiles chart
- Ability to merge mbtiles charts made at the same zoom levels
- Ability to create charts from the highest zoom level of an mbtiles chart
- Ability to manage the SasPlanet cache
- Ability to add self-generated depth sounding to an mbtiles chart
- Ability to add depth soundings from GoogleEarth (another location)
- Ability to convert other files (such as MaxSea & SeaClear) to .gpx or .kml

More 'tweaking' of the SasPlanet program.

All operations have supporting tutorials and help readily available.

A forum for discussion, updates, questions and getting answers. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...rt-233353.html

And a few more capabilities.

Terry

Re: SasPlanet

Hi Terry,
Do you know where the best place to download SASPlanet is. I know of these:

SASGIS - Веб-картография и навигация

https://bitbucket.org/sas_team/sas.p...bin/downloads/

https://gisenglish.geojamal.com/2018...ghtly-all.html

https://downloads.guru/Download-SASPlanet-for-Windows/

and several more.

I believe sasgis.org is the official Russian site but the current versions all give a 'can't load map' error.

GeoJamal has a patch for the error, but I don't know anything about that site and am always a bit reticent to install unknown software...

Thanks much.
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I use SasPlanet exclusively with the Sat2Chart program.

Try this: https://www.mediafire.com/file_premi...uter.docx/file
