It's the little things...

In these days of stress, worry and trouble that CV19 is bringing to us all, i was just thinking that it's the little things in life that make us happiest

for me it's the batteries reading 100%

what are the little things that make others out there happy ?

cheers,

Re: It's the little things...

Having enough food on board to not have to go into town for another 2-3 weeks.

Oh, you said, "little things," didn't you, Chris? I don't know what's little to you. But I went clear back to survival with covid 19, due to pre-existing medical conditions. So, with that as background, and leaving out food and water....
.... wine?
....hand sanitizer
....spray bottle of meths

Sorry, still not little enough.

Books to read?
Films to watch?
Easy boat projects to do?
Fun to write to friends?

Heck, somebody'll do a better job than me.

The abovementioned is what NOT to do.

Ann

Nothing beats a newly released book from my favourite author.

Curl up in bed with a cup of tea and just READ.

GiLow I am hearing you, except it’s usually some op shop treasure and a cup of coffee.

Those sorts of shops are becoming hard to find, but yes, certainly comparable.

Re: It's the little things...

Reading this Margaret Atwood article in this weekend's Globe & Mail reassured and reminded me that we've been through this before and we'll get through this again:

Best wishes all,

This one was also super: how - in surviving shipwrecks, altruism was a defining factor:

Re: It's the little things...

For me it is not a little thing, in fact it is a hugely important thing that makes me happy. My lovely wife. At the risk of sounding sappy or trite, times like these make me focus on the essence of what is important to me. In the abstract it is easy to say that it’s not important how long you live but how well you live in the time you have. Today’s reality makes everyone have to face the fact that ones life will not go on forever but each moment of life can be savored. I am fortunate beyond words to have been able to share my life with my wife for almost 52 years so far. On the boat or at our home or anywhere else for that matter each moment is to be treasured. So, I breathe in and I breath out and I feel gratitude that we are in this together, that we take care of each other, that we share today’s sunrise and sun set. What more could I ask?

Tayana gave a really thoughtful post which I agree with. But an earlier post made me want to suggest a new book I enjoyed "Maximillian's Treasure" It was written by my former law partner, James D. Bell- its a combination legal/thriller/Christian novel. It won honorable mention by the Dove awards this year.

Re: It's the little things...

little things..

I just bought a new to me little boat.

Last weekend I went up to P.A. to check on her.

She has 2 8D gel cells as house bank, and 2 G37 gels as start bank for the M/E and 1 G37 for the gen set start.

Xantrex 3000 as an inverter/charger, echo chargeing the M/E bank, M/E alternator charging the house bank, gen set alt charging the gen start.

All good.... except, the fuse must have blown inline for the echo charge at some time ... so.. The PO had all 5 batteries wired in parallel charging off the xantrex.. Well, one of the G37's developed a shorted cell... xantrex kept trying to charge it.. when I got there this past weekend the one G37 was HOT. ALL other batteries were swelled, they each showed a 12.7 charge but when loaded dropped to below 6 volts. ALL 5 batteries were destroyed. A trip to Costco and I now have two start batteries and 4 GC2's for the house... Wired as they should be...

its the little things...

Re: It's the little things...

The internet. In some ways a "little thing" in some ways something enormous.

In the last two weeks I have reached out to or heard from almost everyone from my childhood up through my early 20s. As we grew up and grew apart life and jobs and kids all got in the way and contacts became less and less frequent.

Now we are cherishing both the memories and who we have become and how we helped each other to get here. Just yesterday I heard from a woman I haven't spoken to since high school. She told me that her son had just died from this virus and for some reason mine was the first name that popped into her mind. Wow.

Like most sailors I can isolate with the best of them, but I'm touched by the compulsion to reconnect. Maybe all the things that piss me off and frustrate me on a daily basis aren't so very important after all.

Little things.

Right now I would like to buy some stove alcohol. I use it to light my Kero stove.

I’m not desperate because I have a few small propane bottles and can do it that way. But the alcohol is easier.

That’s my biggest complaint. How sweet it is.

A good book to read, a comfortable place to curl up in, a good cup of coffee close at hand (in the AM)

1) A glass of wine and a laugh with my wife.

2) When I'm away from home for extended periods: my wife's voice in a voice mail.

Yes, the little things.

Wine - Alcohol content not high enough to work against CV19.
Hand Sanitizer - Works on bacteria, not on virus. CV19 is a virus. Ordinary soap better.
Spray Bottle of Meth. - Good way to get your boat confiscated by the DEA.
