just found out through scouring online records, my boats original owner back in 1967 was a nazi air force lieutenant, who was shot down while the nazis were bombing london in 1941 , he parachuted and survived and was captured and sent to canada as a prisoner of war..... who knew..... iv always thought if my boat could talk it would have stories to tell , now i just imagine this old guy reliving his memories of the war while sailing her ....

There were a whole lot of Luftwaffe Officers that were not Nazi’s.
I believe a lot of the German Professional Military were not.
I met Adolph Galland when I was stationed in Germany, and while I never asked that, I don’t thing he was a Nazi for instance, nor Eric Hartman.
Rudel certainly was though.
I met as many of the German WWII flyers as I could over there and talked to as many as I could as I was very interested in their experiences

Having read several books on WW2 aviation, it seems that very few pilots were members of the Nazi Party and that they disliked the whole political agenda of the party. For the most part, they flew for their country, not for their sick leader. ____Grant.

After the war, no German was ever a Nazi or knew anything of the death camps. They never smelled the smoke or saw hundreds of trains transporting people in cattle cars?
I'm half German. My people came in the 1880s. Germans I've talked with, that came here after the war, were all Hitler supporters at one time. Until the war turned against them. Most claim they didn't like all of what Hitler said, but felt it was worth ignoring for the positive things he did. Just like many Americans view their political leaders.

I only posted that in an attempt to try to illustrate for example the the Nazis were a political party, not a nationality etc.

Similar to when I hear people talk about the Jewish race.
Judaism is a religion not a race. Think Sammy Davis Jr looked much like the stereotypical Jew?

All of us tend to make generalizations, whether we realize it or not, we don’t mean any harm of course, we just don’t think about it.

In my opinion the real lesson of Hitler and the Nazi party, is that it could happen anywhere, to anyone. “We” are not immune, or superior, we could be duped just as easily in the same situation.

Now this isn’t meant to be political at all, and please don’t make political statements about this political party or that one, any political leader, or the thread will be closed.

However point taken, it would be interesting to know the history of older boats etc. it’s my understanding that there are some British boats still around with plaques saying they were used in Dunkirk.
I inherited an M1 Carbine, that my Son has been able to track by serial number to it having been in theater during the battle of the bulge.
Interesting to think of what whoever carried that thing, went through.
