I want say thanks for a tip about
screen sharing from
laptop below
deck to Android tablet in a waterproof bag in the
cockpit. But I can't find the original thread I got the idea from. I'm a
new member, so Im not good with the search function yet.
What I wanted is to be able to see my
radar display in the
cockpit without having to buy an MFD. The Android version of
Open CPN doesn't have the
radar plug in. So my options were MFD, a rugged
laptop outside or
screen share the nav desk laptop to a device outside. I run a
Simrad 3G radar plugged directly into a windows 10 laptop with a
Garmin steady cast heading
sensor for radar overlay. ( Thanks Radar Pi!)
I failed to get the Team Viewer and similar apps to
work offline on the
boats WiFi LAN. Not sure what I was doing wrong. After seeing mention of an app called Desk Space ( I think). I found instead a recently released app at SpaceDesk.net.
It is quite simple and is only for screen sharing from a Windows computer to another device on a Local Area
Network via USB or
WiFi. The non
commercial version is free.
I use my Vesper XB 8000
AIS as the WiFi LAN. It has a USB connection to the laptop to send it
AIS and Position as well as Heading from
Nmea 2000.
Ive only used it a few times, but so far so good. I can control
Open CPN running on the laptop from the tablet although fat finger touch screen errors are easy to make. Zooming in/out and scrolling around the chart are no problem. So thanks for the tip!
