Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

And also the minor detail of being a thankless time consuming PITA to actually do....especially given that folk never wrote their posts with a split in mind.

IMO, the value from a thread such as...

Re: Trouble getting in and out of slip

Sometimes the answer is......no. (An awkard berth combined with awkward conditions, short handed and with an awkward boat sometimes gives an awkward answer). Being inconvenient don't change that...

Re: Something for us all to think about

As someone who does not eat fish (despite being on an island renowned for its seafood!) I have no direct stake in this argument...... But I see a commercial opportunity to re-brand large scale catch...

Re: $20k boat VS $60k boat

A 2000 boat will be due its 2nd refit......or well overdue its 1st!

Or could be a well maintained minter.....less of those around of course.

Me would go 40 on the boat and 20 on refit /...

Long story short, you either do the job properly (yikes!) or stop the leaks, repair / replace core in critical areas, live with it....and hope the...

Re: Something for us all to think about

When countries prosper economically the people produce less babies.

It's happened in the west, will happen elsewhere as well. It's human nature.

Re: Dont own a boat - How to find people to go out with?

Local yacht clubs usually have a notice board....just make clear you are willing to put hand in pocket and will go towards top of the picks! Whether you get invited back will depend on personality...

Re: Getting started sailing cheaply.

Given that op has that rare commodity....time! (Albeit due to PITA circumstances)... IMO given the low budget would be best used finding a small boat or dinghy that is ready to go at a price that...

Re: When we shouldn't encourage people to "just go"

The most famous CF alumni of the "go now" school of thought is Ronnie Simpson (spoiler alert - he ended up on a slow boat to China....a long thread or 2!!).

But he did not only survive but went...

Re: When we shouldn't encourage people to "just go"

Those who come to cf (or any group) simply looking for validation will become disappointed (and occasionally angry!)......but those who come seeking guidance and have the wit to separate (wade...
