I have had success with this as well.
I didn’t use liquid nails brand. I used PL premium. Straight from Home Depot. I used it to stick a 6" x 10" x 1/2" thick piece of
plywood against completely un prepped
Fiberglass.
All I did was squirt it on the back of the
wood and press it in place with my hand. That’s it. Nothing else. No other
work. No clamps, nothing.
It stuck there to the vertical wall and cured.
then I screwed my hydraulic auto pilot
pump to it.
and that’s how it sits to this day.
definitely don’t underestimate these
hardware store adhesives. They have really come along way.
